Genetics Some rare, familial disorders cause hypokalemia:
- Familial hypokalemic periodic paralysis: Hypokalemia after a high-carbohydrate or high-sodium meal or after exercise
- Congenital adrenogenital syndromes
- Liddle syndrome: Increases K+ secretion
- Familial interstitial nephritis
