Complications

  • Postinfectious encephalitis (1/5,000 cases)
  • Thrombocytopenic purpura (1/3,000 cases)
  • CRS: Incidence dependent on trimester exposed
  • Rubella vaccine may rarely cause encephalitis or idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP):
    • ITP is self-limited and is not a contraindication to the vaccine.
