Description
- Disorders caused by the Rickettsiaceae family of organisms. Despite some minor differences in epidemiologic, clinical, and laboratory characteristics, illnesses caused by these organisms have similar manifestations and treatment.
- Can be divided into 4 subgroups based on clinical presentation: The spotted fever group, the typhus group, Q fever, and ehrlichiosis
- Because these illnesses are organized primarily by clinical similarities, the spotted fever group includes classification of tick-borne typhus.
