Description

Disorders caused by the Rickettsiaceae family of organisms. Despite some minor differences in epidemiologic, clinical, and laboratory characteristics, illnesses caused by these organisms have similar manifestations and treatment.
Can be divided into 4 subgroups based on clinical presentation: The spotted fever group, the typhus group, Q fever, and ehrlichiosis
Because these illnesses are organized primarily by clinical similarities, the spotted fever group includes classification of tick-borne typhus.
