- Nicotine replacement therapy sampling for cigarette cessation in dental care: A National Dental Practice-Based Research Network cluster randomized clinical trial. [Journal Article]Addiction. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]A
- CONCLUSIONS: Free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) samples are not sufficient to improve long-term smoking abstinence in dental patients; however, NRT samples increase engagement with quitting behaviors and may serve as a starting point toward quitting. Low recruitment in the NRT sampling group demonstrates discomfort by oral health practitioners in discussing smoking among those not voicing readiness to quit.

- Craving and the body: Sensations of cue-elicited craving in binge drinking university students. [Journal Article]Addiction. 2026 Oct 02. [Online ahead of print]A
- CONCLUSIONS: Among binge drinkers, craving does not appear to be exclusively a psychological phenomenon but also encompasses various and strong bodily sensations. Bodily craving for alcohol encompasses both positive sensations resembling those felt when experiencing pleasurable acute alcohol effects (e.g. relaxation/ease in upper parts of the body) but also negative ones close to those reported in alcohol withdrawal (e.g. tremors, perspiration).

- Age, period and cohort effects in alcohol-related liver disease mortality in the United States, 1968 to 2023. [Journal Article]Addiction. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]A
- CONCLUSIONS: Alcohol-related liver disease deaths in the United States declined from the mid-1970s until the late 1990s before reversing, with period effects accelerating during the COVID-19 pandemic and suggestive cohort effects indicating increasing mortality risk for people born since the late 1980s. Females face disproportionate risk, consistent with their heightened susceptibility to alcohol-related liver disease and the narrowing gender gap in alcohol consumption.

- When psychedelic discourse meets local narrative: Selective uptake of psychedelic meanings surrounding mad honey in Nepal. [Journal Article]Addiction. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]A
- CONCLUSIONS: The analytical value of distinguishing between discourse and narrative lies in the fact that discourse may expand the availability of meanings without necessarily transforming the narrative frameworks through which psychoactive substances are understood and used. Specifically, while globally circulating digital-commercial discourse about mad honey makes psychedelic meanings available, local narratives determine whether those meanings become culturally legitimate ways of understanding and using mad honey.
