- Diagnostic value of the systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) in predicting a low TAPSE/sPAP ratio in hemodialysis patients. [Journal Article]Adv Med Sci. 2026 Oct 26. [Online ahead of print]AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Elevated SIRI levels are associated with increased pulmonary artery pressure, reduced right ventricular systolic function, and a lower TAPSE/sPAP ratio in hemodialysis patients. As a low-cost and easily obtainable biomarker derived from routine laboratory tests, SIRI may provide supportive information regarding RV-PA coupling impairment. Larger prospective studies are warranted to clarify its clinical utility.

- The effects of electronic nicotine delivery systems on metabolic markers - a systematic review. [Review]Adv Med Sci. 2026 Oct 16. [Online ahead of print]AM
- The increasing popularity of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) has become a significant public health concern. Recent data show not only a growing number of users, especially among young adults, but also a notable expansion of the global e-cigarette market. E-cigarettes are often perceived as a less harmful alternative to traditional smoking, and although they do contain fewer toxic substances…

- Tirzepatide persistence, adherence, and dose escalation in a real-world setting with high out-of-pocket costs: a Polish cohort study. [Journal Article]Adv Med Sci. 2026 Oct 09; 71(2):394-401. [Online ahead of print]AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Real-world tirzepatide persistence was suboptimal and associated with recorded starting dose. Traditional clinical comorbidities had limited impact on discontinuation timing. Nonclinical factors, including affordability, tolerability, and patient expectations, may contribute to early loss of observed treatment; although these were not directly measured.

- Selected risk factors for mortality in children with HUS - a single-center analysis. [Journal Article]Adv Med Sci. 2026 Oct 06; 71(2):360-368. [Online ahead of print]AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Neurological (ischemic stroke, ophthalmological anomalies) and systemic (circulatory failure) complications may represent important determinants of outcome in pediatric HUS. Mortality also appears to be associated with systemic inflammatory activation and coagulopathy.

- Thrombospondin-1 and Thrombospondin-2 are associated with biatrial fibrotic remodeling in human valvular heart disease. [Journal Article]Adv Med Sci. 2026 Oct 06; 71(2):385-393. [Online ahead of print]AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Atrial TSPs expression was associated with fibrotic and inflammatory remodeling in valvular heart disease. Differences between transcript and protein findings and the use of pooled preparations warrant cautious interpretation. These observational findings require validation in independent cohorts and do not establish causality.

- Transplantation of undifferentiated and differentiated neural precursors towards Schwann-like phenotype in a model of acute spinal cord injury. [Journal Article]Adv Med Sci. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]AM
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that NPCs transplants may favorably modify the pathophysiological response to TSCI in the acute phase and improve functional outcomes, offering a potential therapeutic strategy for further investigation in chronic TSCI or its application in combined treatments.

- CONCLUSIONS: LIBFR reduced BSAP and CTX-I compared with HIRT, and CTX-I compared with non-exercise. BMD findings were mixed: higher versus LIRT, similar versus HIRT and lower versus non-exercise. Given the very low certainty of evidence, these findings should be interpreted with caution.

- Predictive factors of functional recovery in older inpatients: AIRCOT Study. [Journal Article]Adv Med Sci. 2026 Sep 25; 71(2):349-359. [Online ahead of print]AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Functional status before and at admission is the most reliable predictor of autonomy at discharge. While some comorbidities and biomarkers showed inconsistent associations, multivariable models improved predictive accuracy and may support individualized clinical decision-making. Further research should incorporate advanced machine learning techniques and evaluate their clinical applicability.

- Exploratory assessment of catestatin and thrombospondin-1 as potential biomarkers of disease severity and treatment response in pulmonary arterial hypertension. [Journal Article]Adv Med Sci. 2026 Sep 18; 71(2):322-329. [Online ahead of print]AM
- CONCLUSIONS: In this exploratory single-centre study, catestatin and TSP-1 demonstrated potential associations with disease severity and clinical outcomes in PAH. These findings are preliminary and hypothesis-generating. Larger multicentre studies are required to validate their prognostic value before clinical application.

- CONCLUSIONS: MB-based HPV testing demonstrates high diagnostic accuracy and emerges as a non-invasive alternative for cervical cancer screening, especially in underserved settings. Further validation in diverse populations is warranted.

- CONCLUSIONS: A classification tree model incorporating left atrial reservoir strain, body mass index, LA diameter, and age identified variables potentially associated with arrhythmia recurrence. Although these findings require validation in larger cohorts, they suggest that combining clinical and echocardiographic parameters may improve risk stratification. Advanced echocardiographic techniques and fibrosis-related biomarkers may contribute to assessment of atrial remodeling, although their prognostic value remains uncertain.

- CONCLUSIONS: The OSCILLONiCA-PL-Kids study represents the first nationwide multicenter initiative to establish oscillometry reference values in the Polish pediatric population. The resulting normative equations and percentile charts will facilitate the standardized interpretation of oscillometry and contribute to improved diagnosis and monitoring of pediatric respiratory diseases.

- CONCLUSIONS: Parasternal intercostal muscle thickness measurements show significant asymmetry between the two sides in hemiparetic patients after stroke. However, this asymmetry is not related to PFT and cannot be interpreted as a direct indicator of respiratory dysfunction. The findings may indicate localized inspiratory muscle involvement and thoracic mechanical changes.

- CONCLUSIONS: CT-derived severity metrics reflect systemic disease burden in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Integrating quantitative CT measures with laboratory biomarkers may improve risk stratification and support clinical decision-making.

- CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant DVT is common in patients with PE and is frequently asymptomatic. Although associated with longer hospitalization, it does not independently affect in-hospital mortality. Clinical severity remains the main determinant of short-term outcomes, and concomitant DVT appears to reflect disease presentation rather than prognosis.
