- Determinants of Stunting, Wasting, and Underweight Among Indonesian Children Under Five: A Complex Survey Analysis of the 2024 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey. [Journal Article]Am J Hum Biol. 2026 Oct; 38(10).AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Stunting, wasting, and underweight among Indonesian children were associated with maternal age, antenatal care, recent diarrhea, growth-monitoring attendance, and residence. Because household wealth, parental education, and dietary intake were not included in the models, these associations should not be read as evidence that nutrient intake explains the observed growth deficits, and residual socioeconomic and contextual confounding is likely.

- Determinants of Early Neonatal Weight Loss in Historical Swiss Maternity Hospital Records. [Historical Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Feeding mode was the strongest determinant of early neonatal weight loss. Breastfeeding was consistently associated with lower weight loss, while pandemic exposure and maternal influenza during pregnancy were associated with slightly higher weight loss. These findings suggest that neonatal weight loss may provide an early postnatal indicator of neonatal adaptation reflecting both immediate nutritional influences and broader prenatal conditions.

- From Deprivation to Deficiency: Examining the Nexus Between Multidimensional Poverty and Anemia in India. [Journal Article]Am J Hum Biol. 2026 Oct; 38(10):e70350.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings support a multidimensional perspective on anemia, showing that its distribution is associated with overlapping social and socioeconomic deprivation. A social determinants approach can complement nutritional and biomedical strategies by drawing attention to the broader conditions in which anemia occurs.

- Experiences and Expressions of Stress Among US Food Industry Workers During the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Results align with similar investigations into food workers' stress and limited protections before, during, and after the pandemic. The study contributes evidence for stronger worker support systems and positions food workers' lived experiences as vital to research and policy.

- Study Protocol for the Daasanach Human Biology Project: A Longitudinal Study of the Impact of Drinking Water Salinity and Heat Stress on Water Insecurity, Hydration, Energetics, Hypertension, and Kidney Function in Northern Kenya. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Exploring how water salinity in hot environments impacts human health can help uncover the environmental and social pathways to CKD and cardiovascular diseases facing populations around the world dealing with freshwater salinization. The data generated will provide dose-specific health standards for sodium-chloride in water.

- Patterns of Mortality for Children and Adolescents in Early 20th-Century Alaska. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Proportionate mortality and odds of death differed significantly, reflecting the different structures of Alaska Native versus non-Alaska Native populations in the 20th century and reinforcing demographic observations in the historical record.

- Association Between 2D/4D Digit Ratio and Age at Menarche: A Study on the Algerian Population. [Journal Article]Am J Hum Biol. 2026 Oct; 38(10):e70344.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings support the evidence for the role of prenatal hormonal influence on reproductive development and contribute to the growing interest in research on digit ratio and female reproductive health. Further studies are needed to confirm these associations in different populations.

- The American Journal of Human Biology (AJHB), the flagship journal of the Human Biology Association, has published research on human biology, health, and disease since 1989. The goal of this study is to identify the dominant research themes published in the journal and track their evolution over this 36-year period. To achieve this goal, we adopted a mixed-methods approach that combined large lan…

- CONCLUSIONS: Secular change left segment proportions little altered, concentrated transverse change at the hip, and separated the sexes in the girths: mass-led in men, shape-led in women. Stature and BMI alone do not register it.

- Placental DNA Methylation of HSD11B2 and IGF2 Is Associated With Fetal Growth in the Cebu Longitudinal Health and Nutrition Survey. [Journal Article]Am J Hum Biol. 2026 Oct; 38(10):e70336.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings support the hypothesis that DNA methylation at regulatory regions of HSD11B2 and IGF2 contributes to variation in fetal growth, linking placental epigenetic patterns to birth outcomes.

- Sleep Duration and Sun Exposure in Portuguese Children: Associations With Obesity Indicators. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Sun exposure exhibits modest, sex-specific associations with sleep duration in children. These findings emphasize the importance of considering behavioral and environmental factors when designing interventions to promote healthy sleep, support growth, and prevent childhood obesity.

- This cross-sectional study examined the association between neighborhood social fragmentation and excessive body weight in childhood. The sample included 832 children aged 3-10 years living in the municipality of Porto, Portugal. Excessive body weight was classified using International Obesity Task Force sex- and age-specific cut-offs. Neighborhood social fragmentation was assessed using a compos…

- Comparison of External Measurement Methods of the 2D:4D Digit Ratio. [Journal Article]Am J Hum Biol. 2026 Sep; 38(9):e70337.AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The 2D:4D ratio varies systematically according to the external measurement method used. Measurement protocols should therefore be reported explicitly, and absolute 2D:4D values obtained using different methods should be compared cautiously. These findings highlight the importance of standardizing measurement methods in 2D:4D research and suggest that the detection of sex differences may vary according to both the measurement method and hand side.
