- Clinical Factors Associated With Survival in In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest. [Journal Article]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 27. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Despite advancements in resuscitation guidelines, in-hospital cardiac arrests (IHCA) remain associated with high mortality and morbidity. We aimed to evaluate predictive factors associated with survival in patients suffering an IHCA. A systematic literature search was conducted to identify studies reporting factors associated with survival to hospital discharge following IHCA (2000-2024; English …

- Emergency Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation in Mixed Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease With a Horizontal Aorta: Return of Spontaneous Circulation Only After Left Ventricular Unloading. [Case Reports]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 23. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- A 74-year-old man with mixed bicuspid aortic valve disease, combining severe calcific stenosis with severe regurgitation, and a left ventricular ejection fraction of 26% presented in normotensive cardiogenic shock with anuria and an arterial lactate of 12 mmol/L. Computed tomography showed a fibrocalcific left-right raphe and an aortic angulation of 66 degrees. Emergency transfemoral transcathete…

- When Swallowing Triggers VT. [Journal Article]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 22. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- We describe a case of swallowing-induced ventricular tachycardia in a young, otherwise healthy male with a structurally normal heart which was refractory to multiple anti-arrhythmic medication and was successfully treated with ablation of a cardiac ganglion in the crux of the heart. We use this case to describe an unusual disease presentation and highlight current evidence related to evaluation a…

- Clinical Implementation of Angiography-Derived Fractional Flow Reserve for Revascularization Guidance: Initial Multicenter United States Experience. [Journal Article]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 22. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Real-world data on the adoption and clinical performance of angiography-derived physiology in the United States (U.S.) remain limited. We evaluated the implementation of FFRangio (CathWorks, Tel Aviv, Israel) and associated clinical outcomes across a multicenter U.S. healthcare system. We performed a multicenter observational cohort study across 4 centers involving consecutive adult patients unde…

- Management of Antiplatelet Regimen During Surgical Procedures: a Report from the MARS Registry. [Journal Article]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 22. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Optimal perioperative management of patients on dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains controversial, with substantial variability in current clinical practice. The MARS registry is a prospective multicenter observational study evaluating perioperative outcomes in post-PCI patients on DAPT undergoing surgery within 2 years of PCI. We assessed t…

- In-Hospital Mortality After Aortic Valve Replacement Surgical Versus Transcatheter: A Nationwide Study with Machine Learning-Based Risk Prediction. [Journal Article]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 19. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates that SAVR is associated with a higher likelihood of in-hospital mortality compared to TAVR, with organ dysfunction (liver failure, kidney dysfunction) as a predictor of mortality.

- Optimizing Vessel Preparation in Femoropopliteal Lesions: Does the Chocolate Balloon Deliver on Its Clinical Promise? [Journal Article]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- The "leave nothing behind" paradigm using drug-coated balloons (DCBs) has reshaped femoropopliteal peripheral artery disease treatment, though clinical success remains heavily contingent upon optimal vessel preparation. In a recent issue of The American Journal of Cardiology, Li and colleagues address the limitations of conventional plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) through a propensity score-…

- Prevalence of Guideline-Recommended Genetic Testing in Patients at Risk for Heritable Thoracic Aortic Disease. [Journal Article]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Heritable thoracic aortic diseases (HTAD) include genetic conditions that increase risk of thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection. The 2022 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines recommend genetic testing for at-risk individuals, but real-world uptake remains unclear. We evaluated adherence to testing recommendations and demographic differences across majo…

- Non-invasive Left Ventricular End Diastolic Wall Stress and the Risk of Incident Heart Failure in a Clinical Population. [Journal Article]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Greater left ventricular (LV) wall stress has been associated with adverse clinical outcomes among patients with heart failure (HF). We examined the relation between LV wall stress and the risk of incident HF. Using data from the Vanderbilt Synthetic Derivative, we studied 29,246 adult patients without prevalent HF or ≥ moderate valve disease who underwent transthoracic echocardiography between 2…

- Evidence on Valve Selection for Small Aortic Annuli in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement. [Editorial]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement in patients with small aortic annuli presents unique challenges related to prosthesis-patient mismatch, residual gradients, conduction disturbances, and lifetime valve management. Recent observational data have suggested potential differences in mid-term survival between self-expanding valve and balloon-expandable valve platforms; however, these findings hav…

- CONCLUSIONS: Despite GDMT compliance, cSIMA was associated with higher long-term MACE than ncBIMA, driven by MI hospitalization and repeat revascularization, supporting broader consideration of BIMA in appropriately selected patients in maximizing survival benefit.

- A Propensity-Matched Analysis of Pre Versus Concomitant Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement With Frailty-Related High-Risk Features. [Journal Article]Am J Cardiol. 2026 Oct 10. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with frailty-related high-risk features undergoing TAVR, pre-TAVR PCI and concomitant PCI were associated with similar short- and longer-term clinical outcomes. No significant differences were observed in the 90-day composite outcome or all-cause mortality. These findings support an individualized approach to PCI timing in frail, high-risk patients.
