- Diet and the microbiome-gut-brain axis: implications for clinical neuropsychology. [Review]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Diet represents a foundational, adjunctive strategy for supporting brain health and cognitive resilience across the lifespan. Neuropsychologists can meaningfully incorporate evidence-based dietary discussion into assessment, patient education, and interdisciplinary care coordination, reinforcing established public health guidance rather than providing individualized medical nutrition therapy.

- The effects of serial assessment using the trail making test in elite rugby league players. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The current study has contributed to further understanding pre-injury cognitive performance in elite rugby players and indicated the need for future studies to implement strategies for reducing practice effects. Most importantly, these findings are relevant when assessing cognitive functioning in athletes at risk of concussion. This study emphasized the need to account for variability in performance pre-injury, the assessment of potential performance confounds and recommends the application of methods to reduce practice effects.

- One year after spaced retrieval training: enduring memory enhancement for older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment. [Journal Article]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Our 4-week, app-based SRT program produced memory benefits that endured for one year in older adults with and without MCI due to AD. These findings highlight the promise of delivering SRT to older adults with and without MCI in an accessible, low-burden format that produces lasting memory benefits.

- Sensitivity and specificity of the attention, memory, and frontal abilities screening test to identify objective cognitive impairment in older adults: a pilot study. [Journal Article]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Our preliminary results based on a small, diagnostically heterogeneous sample suggest that the AMFAST and the CERAD-NB did not differ significantly to identify objective cognitive impairment. Future studies with larger, more homogenous samples are needed.

- Relationships between cognition and daily functioning in older adults: How much overlap is there? [Journal Article]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Multiple scores on the RBANS significantly predicted ILS Full Scale score, including those tapping immediate memory and attention. Despite these associations, a sizeable amount of variance of daily functioning was not captured with demographics and cognition, indicating that additional variables need to be considered in such models. Nonetheless, the current findings provide clinicians with additional information about predicting daily functioning based on cognitive test performance and demographic information.

- Battery length as a moderator of classification accuracy for cognitive impairment: a Monte Carlo simulation using actuarial and Bayesian methods. [Journal Article]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Battery length does not meaningfully alter binary impairment classification when actuarial and Bayesian rules are applied. Brief core batteries maximize efficiency for global detection, while comprehensive batteries remain best suited for detailed cognitive profiling and differential diagnosis.

- Depression and cognitive performance in post-9/11 veterans accounting for trauma-related clinical burden. [Journal Article]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that depression is not characterized by broad cognitive impairment in post-9/11 Veterans but that the combination of military blast exposure and depression may subtly affect processing speed.

- Selective associations between cognitive practice effects and reactive balance adaptation in multiple sclerosis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Cognitive practice effects in MS are largely preserved. Delayed verbal recall was selectively associated with reactive balance adaptation, suggesting a possible role for consolidation-dependent memory in balance rehabilitation, though this association requires confirmatory replication.

- The effect of language of administration, experimentally induced symptom exaggeration, and criterion grouping method on self-reported depression and anxiety in Cuba: a cross-cultural study. [Journal Article]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Basic English proficiency may be sufficient to measure anxiety and depression in culturally diverse examinees. The PHQ-9 and GAD-7 have potential for dual use: they simultaneously measure anxiety/depression and non-credible symptom report. However, their symptom validity test function is limited by relatively low sensitivity. Symptom and performance validity were psychometrically distinct constructs.

- Letter fluency and level of depression predict fear of falling in Parkinson's disease. [Journal Article]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Fear of falling is a multifactorial construct in PD and appears independently related to elements of executive functioning and level of depression.

- Prospective memory in breast cancer survivors treated with endocrine therapy: findings from an ecological virtual reality task. [Journal Article]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides preliminary evidence suggesting that ET, independent of chemotherapy-related neurotoxicity, may be associated with alterations in PM. The pattern of PM performance in ET+ patients suggests a disruption in self-initiated retrieval processes during early consolidation, when memory traces remain labile and vulnerable to interference. The use of an immersive VR-based PM paradigm revealed subtle cognitive changes not captured by conventional assessments, underscoring the clinical value of ecologically valid tools.

- Internet adoption and health trajectories in older adults during COVID-19: a longitudinal study. [Journal Article]Arch Clin Neuropsychol. 2026 Sep 09; 41(7).AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Internet adoption was associated with more favorable cognitive change, whereas evidence for depressive symptoms was weaker and less consistent. Digital inclusion may be relevant to cognitive health promotion, but should be complemented by offline social and community support.

- The critical role for neuropsychologists in the assessment and diagnosis of learning disorders: a position paper from the National Academy of Neuropsychology position, education, and response committee. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Clinical neuropsychologists are uniquely positioned to advance the science and assessment of learning disorders by integrating academic findings with developmental, cognitive, psychiatric, and medical information to clarify why a student is struggling and to guide individualized treatment planning. Such efforts have the potential to reduce disparities that confer increased risk for lifelong neuropsychological challenges.
