- Management of urinary stones by experts in stone disease (ESD 2026). [Journal Article]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15986.AI
- The prevalence of urinary stones range between 1 and 14% in different countries around the world. Men account for approximately 67% of cases, but the gender gap is narrowing over time. A study conducted in the Russian Federation showed that 22.2% of subjects interviewed with a questionnaire reported a history of urolithiasis. Stone formation begins with the urinary crystallization of less soluble…

- Hyaluronic acid in Peyronie's disease: focus on injection procedures and clinical practice. [Review]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 28; 98(3):14895.AI
- CONCLUSIONS: Hyaluronic acid represents one of the most promising non-surgical treatments for Peyronie's disease. Both periplaque and intraplaque injection procedures are currently employed in patient management, with periplaque injection emerging as a safe and reproducible approach supported by clinical experience. This work may represent the first systematic effort to describe and compare the different HA injection approaches, providing a valuable contribution toward harmonizing clinical practice and guiding future research.

- Beyond symptom relief: quality of life after surgery for benign prostatic obstruction. [Journal Article]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):16176.AI
- CONCLUSIONS: IPSS-QoL alone cannot adequately describe QoL after BPO surgery. Combining urinary bother with storage function, continence, sexual health, recovery, durability, and satisfaction provides a more meaningful account of treatment success and may support more individualized procedure selection.

- Efficacy and safety of α1-adrenergic receptor antagonists in managing acute urinary retention secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. [Systematic Review]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15967.AI
- CONCLUSIONS: α1-Adrenergic receptor antagonist therapy significantly improves short-term voiding success following AUR due to BPH and appears to reduce recurrence without a significant increase in adverse events. These findings support the routine use of α1-blockers as part of initial management before TWOC in men with AUR secondary to BPH.

- Effectiveness and safety of ultrasound-guided quadratus lumborum block combined with low-dose spinal anesthesia versus general anesthesia in percutaneous nephrolithotomy: a randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15857.AI
- This study aimed to explore the potential benefits and safety considerations of combining ultrasound-guided quadratus lumborum block (QLB) with low-dose spinal anesthesia (LDSA) versus general anesthesia (GA) for individuals undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). This prospective randomized controlled trial included 70 adult patients undergoing PCNL, divided into Group Q (QLB + LDSA, n =…

- Phytate and L-methionine for preventing recurrence of infection renal stones. [Journal Article]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15985.AI
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings of these case reports demonstrate that urinary acidification can be effectively achieved by oral administration of L-methionine in association with phytate in patients with chronic urinary tract infections who form urinary stones with the goal of preventing stone and infection recurrence and preserving renal function.

- Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 for the prevention of recurrent uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women: a pilot randomized placebo-controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15699.AI
- CONCLUSIONS: EcN showed promising signals toward reduction of recurrent urinary tract infections and improvement in patientreported outcomes, particularly vitality-related quality-of-life measures. Although limited by the pilot nature of the study and the reduced sample size due to recruitment difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic, the present findings support further adequately powered randomized trials investigating EcN as a non-antimicrobial preventive strategy in women with recurrent uncomplicated UTIs.

- Real-world outcomes of transurethral resection of the prostate: a Portuguese cohort. [Journal Article]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15893.AI
- CONCLUSIONS: This real-world cohort confirms TURP as an effective and safe procedure for benign prostatic obstruction, providing objective functional improvement and a high catheter-free rate. ED visits, mainly due to urinary retention and hematuria, represent a relevant target for pathway optimization. Standardized antithrombotic protocols and structured postoperative follow-up may further improve safety and quality of care.

- Male reproductive dysfunction reflects the interaction of endocrine, metabolic, genetic, environmental, oxidative, and immune-related factors. Although semen analysis remains the principal laboratory assessment, it is largely descriptive and provides limited insight into the systemic biological context in which semen abnormalities arise. Complete blood count (CBC)-derived inflammatory indices may…
