- Regional distribution of adult rheumatologists. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that many smaller regions of the country have no or few practicing adult rheumatologists. Patients with chronic rheumatic conditions in these areas likely have limited access to rheumatology care. Policy changes could address potential regional rheumatology workforce shortages, but limitations of the current data would need to be addressed prior to implementation of such changes.

- CONCLUSIONS: The long-term prognosis varies for patients with primary SS who have clinically significant renal involvement. Patients with interstitial nephritis display a favorable prognosis, while patients with GN are at high risk of developing lymphoma and have poor survival.

- CONCLUSIONS: Headache is frequent in SLE, but overall, it is not associated with global disease activity or specific autoantibodies. Although headaches are associated with a lower HRQOL, the majority of headaches resolve over time, independent of lupus-specific therapies.

- Association of low baseline levels of erythrocyte folate with treatment nonresponse at three months in rheumatoid arthritis patients receiving methotrexate. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: A low baseline concentration of erythrocyte folate is associated with high disease activity and nonresponse at 3 months after the start of MTX treatment and could be used in prediction models for MTX outcome. None of the investigated one-carbon metabolism biomarkers were associated with incidence of adverse events at 3 months.

- CONCLUSIONS: The ACR/EULAR classification criteria for SSc performed better than the 1980 ACR criteria for SSc and should allow for more patients to be classified correctly as having the disease.

- Most patients with cancer-associated dermatomyositis have antibodies to nuclear matrix protein NXP-2 or transcription intermediary factor 1γ. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These studies demonstrate that anti-NXP-2 and anti-TIF-1γ antibodies are frequent DM specificities (found in 55% of patients) and are present in most patients with cancer-associated DM.

- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that ER stress activates downstream UPPs and contributes to muscle degeneration and that UCHL-1 is a potential biomarker for disease progression. UPP inhibition offers a potential therapeutic strategy for myositis.

- M-ficolin levels reflect disease activity and predict remission in early rheumatoid arthritis. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: In patients with early RA, elevated plasma M-ficolin levels correlated with a high DAS28 and a high HAQ score at baseline and 1 year. A low M-ficolin level was the strongest predictor of remission and low disease activity in a multivariate analysis.
