  • Assessment of therapeutic response in oncology is fundamental for evaluating treatment efficacy, guiding clinical decision-making, and determining prognosis. Historically, response evaluation relied primarily on anatomical imaging criteria derived from tumor size changes on computed tomography (CT), most notably the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) and its adaptations. Howeve…
  • Pediatric 7 Tesla MRI: Current Applications and Future Opportunities. [Journal Article]

  • Utilization of ultra-high-field (UHF) MRI in humans has rapidly increased over the past decade, following regulatory approval of the first clinical 7 Tesla (7T) platforms in 2017 for brain and knee imaging. Currently, there are approximately 140 MRI scanners worldwide operating at or above 7T [1]. While the majority of 7T scanners are dedicated to research and development, select hospitals have s…
  • Is it safe to use surgical instruments with debris from a previous surgery after sterilization? [Journal Article]
    Bone Joint Res. 2026 Oct 01; 15(10):1176-1182.Semeshchenko D, Farinati A, … Lucero CMBJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: Autoclave sterilization was effective in eliminating microorganisms from surgical instruments with retained biological debris. Although no apparent structural deformities of microorganisms were observed by SEM in the mixed biofilms, no bacterial growth was detected after sterilization, supporting the microbiological effectiveness of autoclave sterilization even in the presence of retained biological debris. These findings provide microbiological evidence supporting current sterilization practices, and highlight the need for further studies evaluating alternative sterilization methods such as ethylene oxide or plasma.
  • The risk of not imaging: a three-scenario framework for justification. [Journal Article]
Br J Radiol. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]Rehani MM, Hosono M, … Shokoohi HBJ
  • A recurring argument in radiological protection holds that the radiation risk of an imaging examination must be weighed against the clinical risk of not performing it. The argument is applied inconsistently, and evidence on that clinical risk remains sparse compared with the extensive literature on radiation risk. This asymmetry masks an important distinction: the clinical risk of not imaging is …
  • Recurrent CT Examinations and Cumulative Effective Dose Prevalence: A Five-Year Regional Hospital Network Study. [Journal Article]

  • CONCLUSIONS: Recurrent CT examinations and high CED were observed among younger patients within five years. These findings highlight the importance of ensuring imaging-referral appropriateness and optimizing radiological practices to minimize unnecessary radiation exposure. Monitoring CED and recurrent imaging may provide useful population-level indicators for reviewing imaging practices and supporting ongoing optimization and radiation-protection efforts.
