  • Screening and tuberculosis preventive treatment among household contacts of drug-resistant tuberculosis patients: a scoping review. [Systematic Review]
    BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jul 24; 26(1).Chen S, Luo L, Gong FBI
  • CONCLUSIONS: Screening and TPT for HHCs of patients with DR-TB were commonly implemented using sequential cascade screening approaches and levofloxacin-based preventive treatment regimens across diverse settings. Included studies generally reported acceptable treatment completion and safety outcomes, particularly for levofloxacin-based monotherapy, although implementation outcomes varied substantially across regions and populations. Resource limitations, stigma, transportation difficulties, and poor adherence were frequently reported as barriers to implementation. Given the substantial heterogeneity in study design, screening strategies, and implementation contexts, findings should be interpreted cautiously. Further research is needed to improve evidence on standardized screening approaches, regimen effectiveness, and implementation feasibility across different settings, particularly among high-risk populations such as young children and people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
  • Viral load suppression after enhanced adherence counseling. [Journal Article]
BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jul 21. [Online ahead of print]Nadew T, Dejene TM, … Eshete ABI
  • CONCLUSIONS: The unsuppressed viral load after EAC was associated with alcohol usage, khat chewing, marital status, poor adherence, and place of residence. The WHO target of 70% viral load suppression was not met. Thus, this study recommends that case managers, adherence counselors, and multidisciplinary teams at medical facilities prioritize clients with low adherence and address behavioral variables to optimize viral load suppression.
