- Factors associated with complications among children and adolescents with sickle cell disease in a tertiary hospital in southwestern Nigeria. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed that one-third of SCD children and adolescents experienced at least one complication, and half experienced osteomyelitis. Being an adolescent and the presence of hepatomegaly increased the odds of complications of SCD.

- Effects of school-based nutrition education on self-efficacy, attitudes, food behaviors, and health in children. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that while school-based nutrition education can enhance dietary self-efficacy, short-term educational interventions alone may be insufficient to produce measurable changes in children's eating behaviors. Developmentally tailored, multi-component interventions that incorporate family involvement and environmental factors may be necessary to support sustained improvements in dietary behaviors, particularly among older school-age children.

- Prevalence of hypocalcemia in neonates receiving phototherapy: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Hypocalcemia is a frequent electrolyte disorder in neonates under phototherapy with neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. Thus, regular monitoring is essential, particularly for those who are at high risk.

- From 5Cs to ABC: operationalizing the AAP guidelines into the MEPA-ABC scale for parental mediation of children's digital media use. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Empirical analyses supported a more parsimonious 3‑factor/7‑item structure rather than the theoretically proposed 6 domains. The MEPA‑ABC provides an ultra‑brief, psychometrically robust tool capturing key parental strategies in digital media regulation. It is suitable for research, screening, and clinical or preventive applications.

- Gestational age-stratified analysis of HALP score and complete blood count-derived inflammatory indices in retinopathy of prematurity. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this cohort, CBC-derived inflammatory indices measured at postnatal month 1 were more discriminative than early postnatal measurements, particularly among infants born at ≤ 30 weeks of gestation. These findings suggest that selected inflammatory indices may serve as adjunctive biomarkers for ROP risk assessment in very preterm infants; however, external validation in larger prospective multicenter studies is required before clinical implementation.

- Sex-specific adverse neonatal outcomes and umbilical cord arterial ph at birth: a population-based cohort study. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: Male neonatal sex was associated with several adverse perinatal outcomes, including acidemia and neurological complications. These findings contribute to the understanding of sex-related differences in neonatal vulnerability and warrant further investigation.

- Simulation-based neonatal resuscitation training in low- and middle-income countries: A scoping review. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Simulation training is feasible and effective short-term for LMIC providers, supporting scalable models like HBB with mentoring. Gaps in long-term neonatal outcomes and qualitative insights warrant randomized trials and policy focus on sustainability.

- Staphylococcus aureus-associated pyomyositis complicated by deep vein thrombosis and septic pulmonary embolism in a malnourished child: a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This triad in a malnourished child highlights the need for a high index of suspicion for septic embolization arising from deep soft-tissue infection, particularly in resource-limited settings where laboratory and diagnostic capacity are constrained. Early recognition, aggressive source control, targeted antimicrobial therapy, and appropriate anticoagulation can achieve favorable outcomes.

- SLC10A1 variants causing NTCP deficiency in infants: clinical and functional characterization of a novel splice-site variant. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study broadens the variant spectrum of SLC10A1-related NTCP deficiency and highlights the value of functional testing in the assessment of novel splicing-site variants. Early genetic diagnosis may facilitate appropriate clinical management and help prevent unnecessary interventions.

- "What happens at the doctor's?": a qualitative study exploring social representations and experiential knowledge of medical consultation in 5-6 year-olds. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Children aged 5-6 already hold structured, experience-based models of illness, examination, and treatment. These representations shape expectations of care and may influence anxiety and cooperation during consultations. Recognising and integrating children's perspectives-particularly their focus on concrete signs, diagnostic tools, and tangible treatments-may support more effective communication and child-centred consultations.

- Tracheobronchial pen cap and pen nib foreign body aspiration in 32 children: clinical features, CT findings, and bronchoscopic management. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Stationery-related tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration predominantly affects school-aged boys and presents unique diagnostic challenges. Delayed or absent reporting of aspiration history is associated with prolonged disease duration. CT may be considered as a selective adjunct for localization and procedural planning in clinically stable children, particularly when the history is unclear or presentation is atypical, while rigid bronchoscopy remains the primary diagnostic and therapeutic modality.

- A practical strategy to reduce perioperative hypothermia in NICU patients. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This quality improvement initiative, which prioritized implementation of a prevention bundle, addition of specialized bundle elements for high-risk cohorts, and regular case review, resulted in a decrease in perioperative hypothermia rates for NICU patients undergoing surgical procedures.

- Urinary NT-proBNP as a noninvasive biomarker for pediatric septic shock: a comparative study with serum levels. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Urinary NT-proBNP demonstrated moderate discriminatory ability and high specificity for pediatric septic shock, comparable to serum NT-proBNP, although its correlation with PSS was modest. It may have potential value as an adjunctive rule-in biomarker for cardiovascular stress in pediatric sepsis, but not as a screening tool or replacement for clinical assessment. Further studies are needed to determine its broader clinical utility in pediatric sepsis.

- The association between perceived bullying in physical education classes and school satisfaction among middle school students: the mediating roles of physical activity enjoyment and physical education class happiness. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Perceived bullying in PE classes was associated with lower school satisfaction both directly and indirectly through lower physical activity enjoyment and lower PE class happiness. However, these associations were modest and should not be interpreted as causal because of the cross-sectional design. The findings support efforts to promote psychologically safe and inclusive PE environments as part of school health and bullying prevention strategies.

- What factors influence surgical decisions for post-NEC intestinal strictures in a 14-year, 325-case cohort? [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative inflammatory burden and lower weight at surgery were associated with stoma use in infants with post-NEC intestinal strictures. The model may support preoperative counseling and surgical planning, but should be interpreted as estimating the probability of stoma strategy selection in our institutional practice rather than defining objective indications for either stoma formation or primary anastomosis.
