- Metagenomic analysis of rhizosphere soil microbiota in wild and cultivated Notopterygium incisum, an umbelliferae medicinal herb. [Journal Article]BMC Microbiol. 2026 Oct 05; 26(1).BM
- Notopterygium incisum is not only a traditional Chinese medicine but also an endemic herb. Artificial domestication and large-scale cultivation are crucial for resolving the crisis of wild resources and the supply-demand imbalance of N. incisum, yet current techniques have failed to stably provide the herb medicine in good quality. Metagenomic analyses revealed significant differences in the rhiz…

- Potential mechanisms of endophytic Bacillus velezensis JR4 as a biocontrol agent against Sclerotinia sclerotiorum causing postharvest rot in carrot. [Journal Article]
- Carrot production regions worldwide incur enormous annual economic losses due to postharvest white mold caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. Biological control is a promising approach for controlling postharvest pathogens. This study investigated the biocontrol efficacy of using Bacillus velezensis JR4 against Sclerotinia rot and its potential mechanisms of action. The results showed that the JR4 …

- Beyond lethal doses: sub-MIC levels of multi-class antibiotics induce species- and isolate-dependent biofilm inhibition in gram-negative pathogens. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that sub-MIC exposure produces heterogeneous, antibiotic-, species-, isolate-, concentration-, and method-dependent biofilm responses that diverge between structural matrix accumulation and genomic abundance. Therefore, our findings highlight that sub-MIC exposures demand a multi-assay diagnostic framework to accurately evaluate biofilm-associated drug responses.

- Detection of cefotaxime- and enrofloxacin-resistant and mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli at farm level in younger and older calf groups across different production systems in Germany. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Differences in the qualitative farm-level detection and genetic diversity of CTX- and ENR-resistant and mcr-1-positive E. coli subpopulations were observed between production systems and between younger and older calf groups within farms. These findings suggest that production system and sampled calf group should be considered in the surveillance of antibiotic-resistant E. coli in calves.

- Multidrug resistance, biofilm formation, and pathotype diversity of Escherichia coli isolated from diarrheic lambs in intensive sheep farms, Aksu, Xinjiang, China. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This is the first systematic report on the diversity characteristics of pathogenic E. coli from diarrheic lambs in intensive sheep farms in Aksu, clarifying the phylogenetic and antimicrobial resistance characteristics of the strains and revealing a significant association between biofilm formation and bacterial resistance. These findings provide a basis for the coordinated management of cross-domain public health risks in underdeveloped regions under the One Health framework, and contribute to the sustainable development of the mutton sheep industry and the safeguard of public health security.

- Dietary fiber source-dependent modulation of pregnant sow fecal microbiota, gas profiles, and short-chain fatty acids in vitro. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that different DF sources generate substrate-specific fecal microbial fermentation patterns in vitro. Among the tested substrates, AM produced a stronger SCFA- and H2-associated fermentation response and was linked with selected microbial response patterns. Integrated correlation analysis suggested microbiota-associated co-variation between H2 and SCFAs during DF fermentation, which requires further validation.

- Inferred functional microbiome features are associated with clinical trajectories of low-grade cervical lesions. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Differences in microbial community organization and inferred functional profiles were observed to be associated with LSIL clinical trajectories, whereas taxonomic composition alone showed limited discriminatory value. Integrating microbial taxonomic, ecological, and functional features modestly improved the apparent discrimination of LSIL outcomes, suggesting that inferred functional features may provide complementary information that warrants future research.

- Genomic, virulent and phenotypic characterization of a cerebrospinal fluid-derived ST86-KL2 hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae isolate from a patient with meningitis and diabetes mellitus. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides an integrated clinical, genomic, and phenotypic characterization of BP9811, a CSF-derived ST86-KL2 hvKP isolate recovered from a patient with meningitis and diabetes mellitus. BP9811 carried a canonical hvKP virulence plasmid, displayed marked virulence-associated phenotypes, and showed enhanced interaction with human cerebral microvascular endothelial cells in vitro under the tested conditions. These findings expand the limited isolate-level evidence on central nervous system-associated hvKP and provide a basis for future comparative and mechanistic studies.

- Integrated transcriptomic and proteomic profiling reveals alteration of oxidative phosphorylation in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid-mediated inhibition of Candida albicans biofilm formation. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: DHA and EPA suppress C. albicans biofilms through distinct regulatory modes that converge on pathways linked to mitochondrial energy metabolism. These findings provide a molecular framework for omega-3 PUFA-based antibiofilm strategies and underscore the value of multi-omics integration in generating insights into complex drug mechanisms.

- Long-term epidemiology of bacterial pathogens and antimicrobial resistance in a secondary hospital in China: a 12-year retrospective study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings reveal ecological and temporal patterns of bacterial distribution and antimicrobial resistance in a secondary hospital setting. By integrating long-term surveillance with stratified analyses across patient populations and specimen types, this study provides context-specific epidemiological evidence that may inform empirical antimicrobial therapy and antimicrobial stewardship, strengthen local AMR surveillance in county-level secondary hospitals, and complement national surveillance programs.

- Age-related shifts of dissolved hydrogen and its impact on rumen fermentation dynamics and microbial communities in goats (Capra hircus). [Journal Article]
- The rumen is a complex anaerobic fermentation ecosystem in which microbial communities undergo dynamic changes during host development, influencing fermentation efficiency, hydrogen utilization, and methane (CH4) production. However, how rumen maturation reshapes hydrogen redistribution and the associated microbial interactions remains poorly understood. This study compared rumen fermentation cha…

- Detection of carbapenem resistance mechanisms in difficult-to-treat Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates from a tertiary care hospital in Egypt. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Difficult to treat Pseudomonas aeruginosa is highly prevalent among CRPA isolates in our setting and is caused by multiple resistance mechanisms, particularly blaNDM carriage, efflux pump overexpression, and oprD downregulation. These findings underscore the urgent need for enhanced molecular surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship to limit further dissemination of highly resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) iaolates. Future studies utilizing the DTR-PA definition are needed, as this category highlights the most resistant CRPA isolates with maximum resistance profiles that most likely to pose clinical challenges.

- Bio-functional Levilactobacillus brevis strains of feline origin: the potential probiotic food adjunct for companion animals. [Journal Article]
- Although autochthonous probiotic application is considered standard for the host-specific environment, the allochthonous probiotics also deliver valuable physiological or therapeutic benefits during their transit period before being eliminated naturally. This study evaluated the probiotic and bio-functional attributes of seven zoo feline-derived Levilactobacillus brevis strains for their potentia…
