- Early loss of axons limits the therapeutic window in a mouse model of spinal muscular atrophy. [Journal Article]BMC Neurosci. 2026 Aug 06; 27(1).BN
- Current treatments for spinal muscular atrophy have significantly improved patient prognosis, but still fall short of a full cure, particularly when administered after symptom onset. To improve future therapies, it is essential to identify the early pathological events that currently limit treatment efficacy. Here we have investigated the vulnerability and maturation of intramuscular motor axons …

- Disentangling global atrophy burden from local structural patterns reveals clinically relevant heterogeneity in mild cognitive impairment. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: MCI heterogeneity is not explained solely by global atrophy. Local residual structural patterns were associated with cognitive and functional differences, and continuous residual features captured additional clinical information beyond discrete subtype labels. Separating global atrophy burden from local anatomical organization may improve interpretation of imaging heterogeneity in prodromal AD.

- The effects of urapidil as an alpha receptor blocker on spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury in male rats. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this experimental spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion model, urapidil treatment was associated with improved early motor performance, increased glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity, and reduced levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β during the acute reperfusion period. These changes occurred alongside favorable histopathological findings; however, given the short follow-up duration and the limited scope of apoptotic assessment, the results should be considered preliminary and interpreted as hypothesis-generating.

- Microanatomy of the cerebellum and olfactory bulb of the African pygmy hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris). [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The cerebellum and olfactory bulb of the African pygmy hedgehog conform to the conserved structural organisation observed in other mammals. The combined histological and histomorphometric findings provide baseline quantitative and qualitative data for comparative neuroanatomical studies and suggest adaptations associated with the species' sensorimotor and olfactory specialisations.

- Whole-transcriptome sequencing reveals Alzheimer's disease-associated ceRNA regulatory networks and downstream pathways. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Whole-transcriptome sequencing uncovered extensive ceRNA regulatory networks in AD hippocampus, with the circRNA_13083/miR-298-5p/CD14 axis potentially implicated in neuroinflammation and programmed cell death through NF-κB signaling. Silencing CD14 mitigates microglial activation and neuronal injury, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target for AD.

- Anterior part of fronto-temporal language network as the neural basis of morphologically structured word form processing: evidence from Korean morphologically complex word. [Journal Article]
- The present fMRI study investigated which subregions of the visual word recognition network contribute to morphologically structured word form processing in Korean. Participants performed two separate lexical decision tasks in the scanner. In the Eojeol task, stimuli were three-syllable words composed of a disyllabic noun plus a case particle, whereas in the Noun task, stimuli were disyllabic (DS…

- A latent genetic factor underlies multiple component phenotypes of cerebral small vessel disease. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings delineate a coherent latent genetic structure linking multiple cSVD-related phenotypes, rooted in vascular wall cell biology, epigenetic regulation, and cellular senescence, with developmental origins spanning multiple organ microvascular beds.

- A single-cell atlas of intracranial aneurysm progression identifies a dysfunctional VSMC subpopulation associated with rupture risk. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study identifies VSMC phenotypic dysregulation as a key correlate of IA instability, linking molecular deficits to clinical rupture predictors. This reframes IA as a disorder of vascular cellular identity and communication, revealing potential therapeutic targets for aneurysm stabilization.

- TGF-β2 exerts neuroprotective effects via inhibition of astrocyte-mediated inflammatory responses. [Journal Article]
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a severe neurological condition associated with complex pathological cascades. Transforming growth factor-β2 (TGF-β2) is a pleiotropic cytokine that participates in multiple cellular events in the central nervous system; however, its potential protective role and molecular mechanisms in the context of TBI-induced neuronal injury have not been fully elucidated. In t…

- Oral sodium butyrate alleviates motor deficits and dopaminergic neuronal loss in 6-hydroxydopamine-induced Parkinson's disease rat model. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Early long-term oral NaB treatment afforded neuroprotection and alleviated motor and non-motor deficits (such as gait and central time in the open field) in rats with 6-OHDA-induced PD. Our model indicates the therapeutic potential of oral NaB and provides a translational framework for investigating the mechanisms of NaB therapy in PD and associated neurological disorders.

- Investigating effects of day-to-day variations in environmental exposure on the human brain: study protocol for the Day2Day Environment project. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The Day2Day Environment dataset offers a unique opportunity to study short-term neuroplasticity in response to the dynamic interplay between multiple environmental exposures. Furthermore, the diversity of measurements in this dataset may be valuable for addressing research questions beyond environmental neuroscience.

- Structural characteristics of local cortical networks wired by distance dependent connectivity rules. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Distance-dependent connectivity gives rise to structural network features that may facilitate the emergence of functional neuronal assemblies. Based on the findings of this study, a general probabilistic rule for local cortical connectivity is proposed that can be used to design artificial neural networks with biologically inspired wiring principles.
