- Statistical quality control practices in a sample of Spanish Blood Establishments: a mixed-methods exploratory study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Among participating centers, variation in the implementation of statistical quality control practices relative to EDQM recommendations suggests opportunities for improved harmonization. Automated tools that embed recommended sampling and monitoring methods may support implementation, although larger studies are needed to estimate prevalence at national level.

- IgA driven autoimmune hemolytic anemia: a monocentric Italian report and literature review. [Journal Article]Blood Transfus. 2026 Sep 03. [Online ahead of print]BT
- CONCLUSIONS: IgA-mediated AIHA is a rare, heterogeneous subtype characterized by frequent dual antibody positivity, suboptimal corticosteroid response, and substantial risks of relapse and complications, requiring careful monitoring and individualized management. These findings highlight the need for improved recognition of IgA-mediated disease and prospective studies to define optimal second-line therapies and outcomes in affected patients.

- Regional implementation, guideline landscape, and economic impact of blood component leukoreduction: a systematic literature review. [Review]Blood Transfus. 2026 Sep 10. [Online ahead of print]BT
- CONCLUSIONS: Over the past decade, published studies on leukoreduction implementation have remained sparse, and the available literature indicates that the field has advanced little in many regions. Implementation remains heterogeneous globally, and robust evidence on its economic impact is still limited, underscoring the need for further cost-effectiveness studies.

- The 2 breakpoint regions of an RHCE-D(2-9)-CE allele causing a D phenotype and its RhAG antigen density. [Journal Article]Blood Transfus. 2026 Aug 07. [Online ahead of print]BT
- CONCLUSIONS: We describe the breakpoint regions of a Ce-D(2-9)-Ce allele that encoded a D-- phenotype. Our results underscore the importance of breakpoint characterization for identifying clinically relevant RH variants and advancing personalized transfusion medicine. The second DMA observation, in trans to a DAU3 allele, aligned with a weak D phenotype for DMA.

- Transfusion risk assessment for cesarean delivery: a preoperative tool to guide blood utilization. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This simple risk score, based on routinely available preoperative and intrapartum factors, may help identify patients at low risk for intraoperative transfusion, allowing more selective blood preparation, improved resource allocation, and more efficient utilization of blood products during cesarean delivery while supporting individualized clinical decision-making.

- Perceived risk explains aversion to blood donation by men who have sex with men. [Journal Article]Blood Transfus. 2026 Jun 23. [Online ahead of print]BT
- CONCLUSIONS: This research highlights that perceived risk may drive aversion toward the notion of receiving a transfusion of blood donated by MSM. Interventions that aim to reduce perceived risk by emphasizing high benefits or low risks of easing deferral policies may not be effective. Research into other routes to mitigate negativity towards donation of blood by MSM is warranted.

- Salvianolic acid B alleviates red blood cell storage lesion with GPX4 preservation and reduced lipid peroxidation. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that a ferroptosis-like process of lipid peroxidation contributes to RBC storage lesion, with GPX4 regulating erythrocyte stability. Sal B alleviates storage lesion in parallel with preservation of GPX4 and reduced lipid peroxidation, providing a potential strategy to improve the quality of stored blood.

- Standardized diagnostic approach for cold agglutinin disease: results from a Delphi-Based Expert Consensus. [Journal Article]Blood Transfus. 2026 Jul 15. [Online ahead of print]BT
- CONCLUSIONS: This expert consensus provides a standardized diagnostic approach for CAD, addressing current gaps in clinical and laboratory evaluation. Implementing these recommendations is expected to improve diagnostic accuracy and consistency, facilitating better patient outcomes and national harmonization of practices.
