- Combined versus staged resection of synchronous rectal cancer liver metastases: national target trial emulation. [Journal Article]Br J Surg. 2026 Oct 05; 113(10).BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In this nationwide rectal cancer cohort, combined and staged strategies were associated with comparable morbidity and long-term survival. Surgical sequencing should be individualized within multidisciplinary decision-making.

- Efficacy of indocyanine green (ICG) angiography in reducing postoperative complications in oesophagectomy: systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Br J Surg. 2026 Oct 05; 113(10).BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Use of ICG appears to be associated with reduced anastomotic leak in oesophagectomy, although certainty of evidence is low. Assessment remains qualitative and operator-dependent.

- Long-term oncological outcomes of robotic versus laparoscopic total mesorectal excision for rectal cancer: COLRAR randomized clinical trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Br J Surg. 2026 Oct 05; 113(10).BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: R-TME and L-TME produced equivalent 5-year oncological outcomes. A post-hoc analysis suggested improved local control with robotic surgery after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, requiring confirmation in prospectively designed studies.

- Gastrointestinal symptoms and health-related quality of life before and after pancreatectomy for pancreatic cancer (GO-PANC): longitudinal nationwide study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Gastrointestinal symptoms in patients undergoing pancreatectomy for pancreatic cancer were highly prevalent and peaked within 3 months after surgery. Severe gastrointestinal symptoms affected more than half of all patients after surgery, which led to substantial declines in HRQoL.

- Restorative resection in robot-assisted versus laparoscopic total mesorectal excision: systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: R-TME is associated with a higher likelihood of primary anastomosis formation while maintaining a comparable safety profile. The more pronounced effect in recent studies likely reflects increasing surgical expertise. Future research should determine whether these advantages translate into measurable improvements in patient quality of life.

- Integrated driver gene-based survival prediction in resected pancreatic cancer. [Journal Article]Br J Surg. 2026 Aug 27; 113(9).BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The cumulative burden of driver gene mutations provided independent and incremental prognostic information after PDAC resection. External validation is required before clinical application.

- Impact of indocyanine green on nodal dissection and staging for gastric cancer surgery: iGreenGO prospective multicentre study. [Multicenter Study]Br J Surg. 2026 Aug 27; 113(9).BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Although ICG frequently led to additional dissection of nodal stations after standard white-light D2 lymphadenectomy, it rarely resulted in stage migration. Use of ICG fluorescence to optimize lymph node dissection likely does not have a clinically relevant benefit in Western patients with gastric cancer.
