- Disrupted imagery, disrupted scenes: mental scene construction in behavioural-variant frontotemporal dementia. [Journal Article]Brain Res. 2026 Oct 30; 1895:150621. [Online ahead of print]BR
- Mental scene construction-the ability to generate coherent, spatially organized, and vivid internal representations-is central to episodic memory, future thinking, and social cognition. However, in behavioral-variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD), relatively little is known about how core components of mental scene construction, such as visual imagery, spatial imagery, imagery vividness, and vi…

- Paclitaxel induces region-specific microglial remodeling associated with chronic behavioral deficits and modulated by electroacupuncture in rats. [Journal Article]Brain Res. 2026 Oct 28; :150620. [Online ahead of print]BR
- Chemotherapy-associated behavioral deficits, including cognitive impairment and depression, collectively termed chemobrain, often persist into the chronic phase after treatment, yet their underlying cellular mechanisms remain unclear. In particular, it remains unknown whether long-lasting behavioral deficits are associated with sustained neuroinflammatory responses or other forms of microglial al…

- Charitable giving with earned and windfall money: behavioral and ERP responses to donation-risk information. [Journal Article]Brain Res. 2026 Oct 28; 1895:150613. [Online ahead of print]BR
- Charitable giving depends both on how money is acquired and on expectations about its eventual use. However, it remains unclear how monetary source shapes the evaluation of donation-risk information after a donation decision. Twenty-six participants made repeated donation decisions using earned and windfall money while electroencephalography was recorded. After each choice, a cue indicated a 70 %…

- RAD51 expression in pan-cancer and its prognostic and immune mechanisms in glioma. [Journal Article]Brain Res. 2026 Oct 28; 1895:150619. [Online ahead of print]BR
- CONCLUSIONS: RAD51 is a robust diagnostic biomarker and independent prognostic risk factor for glioma. It is correlated with glioma malignant features and shows potential links to altered immune-gene expression and immunosuppressive microenvironment. The nomogram supports clinical risk stratification, providing novel targets for glioma prognosis evaluation and immunotherapy.

- TDP-43 dysfunction destabilizes glial homeostatic identity in ALS/FTD. [Review]Brain Res. 2026 Oct 27; 1895:150618. [Online ahead of print]BR
- TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) pathology is a defining feature of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Although TDP-43 dysfunction has traditionally been studied through a neuron-centric framework, increasing evidence demonstrates that astrocytes, microglia, and oligodendrocytes are also directly affected and actively contribute to disease progression. In th…

- Analysis of the dynamic evolution and immunosuppressive functions of myeloid cells in gliomas based on single-cell transcriptomics. [Journal Article]Brain Res. 2026 Oct 26; 1895:150604. [Online ahead of print]BR
- CONCLUSIONS: This study systematically characterizes the dynamic evolution and immunosuppressive functions of myeloid cells, particularly SRGN + neutrophils, in GBM, suggesting a potential dual "chemotactic recruitment and selective suppression" mechanism by which they may shape the landscape of CD8 + T-cell exhaustion. The risk model constructed based on this subpopulation demonstrated prognostic stratification value within the TCGA-GBM cohort, pending validation in independent cohorts, and suggests a potential therapeutic strategy combining targeting of the HLA-E-NKG2A axis with temozolomide.

- Subacute administration of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells is associated with neurobehavioral improvement, myeloid immune modulation, and altered HMGB1 dynamics after experimental ischemic stroke. [Journal Article]Brain Res. 2026 Oct 26; :150617. [Online ahead of print]BR
- Cell therapy using human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) is attracting attention as a promising treatment strategy for ischemic stroke. This study investigated the therapeutic effects and associated biological changes following hUCMSC administration during the subacute phase using a mouse model of permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). Based on our previous fin…

- Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation attenuates post-stroke dysphagia by modulating microglial polarization via the endothelial VWF/PI3K-Akt axis. [Journal Article]Brain Res. 2026 Oct 25; 1895:150605. [Online ahead of print]BR
- Post-stroke dysphagia is a common complication with limited treatment options. Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (ta-VNS) has shown neuroprotective effects. This study investigated whether ta-VNS improves swallowing function and alleviates neuroinflammation by modulating microglial M1/M2 polarization, examining the role of von Willebrand factor (VWF) in endothelial-microglial cross…

- CONCLUSIONS: Plasma p-tau181, Aβ1-42, and GFAP showed distinct concentration profiles across the clinically-defined diagnostic groups in this exploratory cross-sectional cohort. GFAP and p-tau181 showed moderate-to-good discriminative performance in several pairwise comparisons involving AD or MAD, whereas Aβ1-42 showed comparatively lower standalone discriminative performance.

- Reduced hypothalamic [[3]H]PK11195 binding in Lewis rats after chronic high-intensity interval training. [Journal Article]Brain Res. 2026 Oct 18; :150600. [Online ahead of print]BR
- CONCLUSIONS: Chronic HIIT exercise was associated with a potential exercise-related modulation of TSPO-associated neuroimmune signaling in the hypothalamus reflected in region-specific reductions in [[3]H]PK11195 binding, an indirect index of TSPO-associated neuroimmune signaling that should not be equated with direct evidence of reduced microglial activation. Moreover, TSPO-associated neuroimmune signaling may vary by sex in a region-dependent manner. The observed hypothalamic association warrants future studies testing whether changes in TSPO-associated signaling are linked to functional outcomes in stress, reward, or neuropsychiatric models.

- The prelimbic division (PrL) of the medial prefrontal cortex is implicated in the pathogenesis of generalised anxiety and chronic pain disorders. This study aimed to investigate the role of PrL N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor signalling in the comorbidity between neuropathic pain and psychiatric disorders. - Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a leading cause of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI), characteristically associated with gray matter (GM) loss. However, it remains unclear whether this GM loss exhibits regional interhemispheric asymmetry and how it relates to cognitive function. In this study, 56 CSVD patients and 56 demographically matched healthy controls were included, and structural…
