- Optimising thermal imaging for clinical assessment of burn depth and healing monitoring. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Sep 17; 52(9):108230. [Online ahead of print]B
- CONCLUSIONS: The proposed thermal image processing enabled objective assessment of burn depth and facilitated non-invasive monitoring of wound healing. The developed model showed high prognostic performance and substantial agreement with the final clinical outcomes. Further validation in larger prospective cohorts is needed to support the development of standardised protocols.

- Frostbite in Northeastern China: Risk factors for amputation and readmission burden - A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Sep 17; 52(9):108232. [Online ahead of print]B
- CONCLUSIONS: Frostbite in Northeast China carries a substantial amputation burden and considerable readmission-related resource use. Frostbite severity and infection were independent clinical predictors of amputation, and amputation was an independent determinant of prolonged hospitalization. Enhanced follow-up for high-risk groups (alcohol intoxication, psychiatric disorders, winter peaks) warrants consideration.

- Accuracy of burn size estimation in referred patients: A comparison between referring units and a Swedish National Burn Centre. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Oct 07; 52(9):108250. [Online ahead of print]B
- CONCLUSIONS: Non-experts frequently overestimate burn size, particularly for larger and anatomically complex burns. These findings highlight the need for improved precision in early burn assessment to better guide triage and resuscitation decisions.

- Microcirculatory response to fluid resuscitation in severe burns. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Oct 08; 52(9):108251. [Online ahead of print]B
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated persistent impairment of tissue perfusion during the early phase of burn resuscitation despite normalization of conventional systemic resuscitation endpoints. Endothelial biomarker profiles suggested persistent endothelial alterations without definitive evidence of ongoing glycocalyx degradation. Quantitative microcirculatory assessment and endothelial biomarkers may provide complementary physiological information beyond conventional systemic resuscitation parameters and warrant further investigation in burn resuscitation.

- Antibacterial and immunomodulatory core-shell nanofibrous membranes accelerate skin wound repair and regeneration. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Oct 07; 52(9):108249. [Online ahead of print]B
- Complex skin wounds are complicated by infection, inflammation, and delayed regeneration, necessitating wound dressings with antibacterial, immunomodulatory, and regenerative properties. Here, we developed a coaxial core-shell nanofibrous membrane that integrates structural and bioactive components within a multifunctional dressing. The membrane comprised poly(lactic acid) (PLA) reinforced with n…

- Non-recreational burn injuries are associated with worse pain interference and social integration: a Burn Model System Database Study. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Sep 25; 52(9):108236. [Online ahead of print]B
- CONCLUSIONS: Burn injury circumstance has an association with pain and social reintegration, independent of injury severity. Predicting successful RTW remains challenging, as outcomes are often dependent on other contextual factors as well, such as the patient's financial need or the availability of vocational resources.

- Prehospital fluid resuscitation in patients with severe burns - A nationwide cohort study. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Oct 09; 52(9):108254. [Online ahead of print]B
- CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with severe burns, prehospital fluid administration was not significantly associated with early or in-hospital mortality.

- Burden to healing: A comparative disability-adjusted life years analysis of burn-related burden across sociodemographic and regional groups in the United States. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Oct 09; 52(9):108252. [Online ahead of print]B
- CONCLUSIONS: Burn-related DALY in the United States follows a clear sociodemographic gradient, distinguished by dual age vulnerability and regional heterogeneity. These findings highlight populations and regions that may warrant further investigation and targeted resource assessment for burn-related injury prevention and access to burn care, rehabilitation, and reconstructive follow up.

- Burn injury management by Dutch physician-staffed HEMS: Findings from the HEMS-BURNS cohort and National Trauma Registry. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Aug 17; 52(9):108183. [Online ahead of print]B
- CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective cohort study found that 46.6% of P-HEMS dispatches for patients with burns were cancelled, often due to minor injuries. P-HEMS-specific interventions were performed in 33.6% of non-cancelled dispatches. These findings suggest a need to optimize dispatch criteria to reduce overtriage and improve efficiency of P-HEMS dispatch for burn care.

- CONCLUSIONS: The addition of passive VR to standard multimodal analgesia did not reduce peri-procedural opioid consumption during painful post-autograft dressing changes. High participant and nurse acceptability suggests that passive VR may be feasible and well tolerated, although these findings should be interpreted as acceptability data rather than comparative evidence of analgesic benefit over standard care.

- Non-genetic factors play a more important role in lansoprazole metabolism than CYP2C19 pharmacogenetic profiles in European patients with burns. [Journal Article]Burns. 2026 Oct 09; 52(9):108253. [Online ahead of print]B
- Single nucleotide variants in the CYP2C19 gene, as well as some non-genetic factors, are associated with the effectiveness of most proton pump inhibitors used for stress ulcer prophylaxis and should be considered in personalized treatment. In this study, we aimed to determine the CYP2C19*2 and *17 haplogenotypes by qPCR and the concentration of lansoprazole and its metabolites using HPLC in 50 bu…

- CONCLUSIONS: The 1-STST is a valid and reliable tool for assessing functional exercise capacity in patients with burn injury for post-acute recovery. 1-STST can be a potential alternative tool over 6-MWT in situations where space and time are limited.
