- Bilateral same-day glaucoma surgery: a single-centre review of safety and outcomes of bilateral same-day minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 30. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: this is the first study to report safety outcomes of BSDGS using MIGS procedures. The intervention appears safe and effective relative to both unilateral MIGS and immediately sequential bilateral cataract surgery.

- Exploratory structure-function associations in retinal vein occlusion-associated macular edema using deep learning-based quantification of OCT biomarkers and microperimetry. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 23. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: IRF, SRF, hemorrhage, DRIL, and EZT showed associations with PWS, whereas IRF and SRF were associated with lower EZT in RVO. MP may improve understanding of structure-function associations in RVO.

- Barriers to vision care among older adults experiencing homelessness: a qualitative study. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Older adults experiencing homelessness face compounding, intersecting barriers to eye care across individual, provider, and system levels. Findings support shifting toward shelter-embedded, integrated models of vision care to improve access for this vulnerable population.

- Correlation between the dysfunctional lens index and subjective grading for different types of cataracts. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 30. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The DLI can be a valuable objective measurement for the severity of nuclear and posterior subcapsular cataracts but not for anterior cortical cataract. A DLI threshold of 8.01 demonstrated moderate discriminative ability for surgical status in this cohort; however, given the retrospective design, DLI should be considered an adjunctive or confirmatory measure rather than an independent criterion for cataract surgery. This study highlights the transformative potential of objective metrics like the DLI, offering significant advancements in identifying visually significant cataracts and their management.

- Association of glaucoma diagnosis with sex hormone-related diagnoses and hormone-replacement therapy within a national U.S. database. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 10. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Estrogen- and testosterone-deficient states in this study did not show a consistent pattern with glaucoma risk, whereas estrogen-replacement therapy and long-term estrogen use may confer protective effects.

- Effectiveness of selective laser trabeculoplasty in lowering intraocular pressure in pseudoexfoliative glaucoma: a systematic review. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: SLT provides clinically meaningful but variably durable IOP reduction in PXG. Given inconsistent durability and relatively common transient IOP spikes, it is best used with close follow-up rather than as a guaranteed long-term solution. Long-term prospective studies are needed to clarify its durability and optimal role in PXG management.

- Choroidal abnormalities in neurofibromatosis type 1: a quantitative multimodal retinal imaging analysis. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 30. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: En face OCT demonstrated better detection of CAs compared with MC and NIR imaging. In addition, lesion area measurements were consistent across all 3 modalities, highlighting their reliability in characterizing CAs in patients with NF1.

- Long-term outcomes after Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty: cumulative transplant burden and visual outcomes. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 30. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: DMEK provides substantial long-term visual improvement; however, outcomes extend beyond graft survival. Eyes with BK and ocular complexity have higher transplant burden and risk of failure. Increasing transplant burden is associated with worse visual outcomes, highlighting the importance of individualized long-term management and counseling.

- Surgical outcomes of the SIBS microshunt in pediatric glaucoma: a retrospective study. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 30. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In pediatric glaucoma, the ab externo SIBS microshunt demonstrated reasonable 1-year surgical success rates with few complications, supporting its potential as a therapeutic alternative in selected cases within this population. Long-term, prospective studies are warranted to further assess its durability and safety in this population.

- Agreement between iCare HOME and Goldmann applanation tonometry: systematic review and meta-analysis. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Oct 30. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: iCare HOME showed no significant systematic bias relative to GAT, including with 1 eye per participant, but substantial heterogeneity and wide individual-level agreement limits preclude routine interchangeability.

- Diagnostic performance of deep learning models in retinal vein occlusion: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Journal Article]Can J Ophthalmol. 2026 Sep 23. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Deep learning models showed high diagnostic accuracy in detecting retinal vein occlusion across different imaging modalities. However, the certainty of the evidence, assessed using Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation, was low for all outcomes. Future research should investigate the feasibility and costs of implementing deep learning for RVO diagnosis in real-world clinical environments.
