- Late enhancement and washout maps for distinguishing tumor progression from radiation necrosis in malignant brain tumors: an exploratory study. [Journal Article]BMC Cancer. 2026 Oct 15; 26(1).BC
- CONCLUSIONS: The washout ratio can enhance the differentiation between recurrent tumor growth and radiation necrosis during post-treatment monitoring of malignant brain tumors. As MR perfusion can yield inconclusive results in this setting, the proposed method offers complementary information that supports initial diagnostic decision making. Diagnostic discrimination may be strengthened by combining the relative cerebral blood volume with washout ratio analysis, rather than relying on a single imaging marker.

- CONCLUSIONS: In IDH1+ aCCA, addition of immunotherapy to GemCis was associated with inferior rwOS. These findings support obtaining ctDNA-based CGP before initiating 1L therapy, and underscore the need for prospective studies.

- Cancer risks associated with BRCA1 and BRCA2: Overview and management. [Review]Cancer. 2026 Oct 15; 132(20):e70635.C
- The BRCA1 and BRCA2 tumor suppressor genes are integral to the repair of DNA double-strand breaks. Therefore, germline pathogenic variants (PVs) in either of these genes are associated with an increased risk of developing hereditary cancers. For over 30 years, studies have demonstrated a well established and markedly increased lifetime risk of female breast cancer and ovarian cancer for individua…

- Decoupling T cell cytotoxicity: a CCL21+ICAM1-based synthetic immune niche enhances tumor elimination by accelerating lytic hit delivery. [Journal Article]BMC Cancer. 2026 Oct 15; 26(1).BC
- Preserving T cell cytotoxic function during ex vivo expansion remains a major challenge for adoptive cancer immunotherapy. A synthetic immune niche (SIN) composed of immobilized CCL21 and ICAM1 was shown to improve T cell expansion while preserving cytotoxicity; however, it remains unclear which specific step of the T cell killing process is enhanced by the SIN stimulation. Here, we combined adva…

- Machine learning model for the prediction of pathological complete response after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer. [Journal Article]BMC Cancer. 2026 Oct 08; 26(1).BC
- CONCLUSIONS: Through the combination of imaging and clinicopathological features, our machine learning model shows a promising approach to improve the prediction of pCR in breast cancer patients receiving neoadjuvant treatment. In combination with the LASSO regularization, it allows interesting insights into the predictive potential of different variables, which are available as part of standard clinical practice.

- CONCLUSIONS: TRITICC-2 investigates a biologically rational combination of FTD/TPI and nal-IRI in a patient population with a high unmet medical need. The study is expected to provide prospective data on the clinical activity and safety of this regimen and may contribute to the identification of biomarkers associated with treatment response in advanced biliary tract cancer.

- FGFR pathway inhibition enhances PD-1 blockade and modulates antitumor immunity in colorectal cancer models. [Journal Article]BMC Cancer. 2026 Oct 13; 26(1).BC
- Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) has demonstrated limited efficacy in microsatellite stable (MSS) colorectal cancer (CRC). The fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) signaling pathway contributes to tumor immune evasion, yet its role in CRC remains insufficiently understood. We investigated the immunomodulatory effects of FGFR inhibition in combination with PD-1 blockade in murine CRC models. I…

- CONCLUSIONS: Peripheral Bregs, Tregs, and serum cytokine profiles, including proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines were increased among NSCLC patients and may be associated with disease progression and metastasis.

- Evolving role of proton therapy in contemporary oncology. [Review]Cancer. 2026 Oct 15; 132(20):e70622.C
- Proton therapy offers a distinct physical advantage over photon radiotherapy through the Bragg peak dose concentration in target with both lower integral dose and finite path length, and sharper penumbra as compared to photons, collectively reducing radiation exposure to surrounding normal tissues and potentially improving the therapeutic ratio. However, this advantage is tempered by uncertaintie…

- CONCLUSIONS: CRP kinetics may be a valuable prognostic tool for early response assessment in patients with BTC who receive chemoimmunotherapy. However, these findings require prospective external validation in larger cohorts.

- Neutropenia events with androgen receptor pathway inhibitor-containing versus control therapies in prostate cancer patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: ARPI intensification compared with matched control regimens was associated with a modest increase in any grade neutropenia, whereas no significant increase was observed for grade 3 or higher neutropenia. Current randomized evidence does not establish that ARPIs independently increase the risk of severe neutropenia. Complete blood count monitoring may be individualized according to baseline hematologic risk and concomitant myelosuppressive therapy, particularly in patients receiving chemotherapy. Subgroup findings should be interpreted as exploratory.

- Delays in breast cancer presentation, diagnosis, and treatment in young women. [Journal Article]Cancer. 2026 Oct 15; 132(20):e70594.C
- CONCLUSIONS: In this cohort of young patients with BC, demographic and tumor factors were associated with delays in care. It is reassuring that delays did not influence disease outcomes.
