  • Beta-blockers are the cornerstone of first-line therapy for symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM), whereas mavacamten has recently emerged as an effective disease-specific treatment targeting the underlying hypercontractile state. However, the optimal management of concomitant beta-blocker therapy following mavacamten initiation remains uncertain. Available evidence indicates…
  • Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic Overlap in Patients Hospitalized for Heart Failure. [Journal Article]
JAMA Cardiol. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]Kittipibul V, Ayodele I, … Greene SJJC
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this contemporary cohort of US patients hospitalized for HF, most patients had multiple additional overlapping CKM conditions. Increasing CKM multimorbidity was independently associated with stepwise increases in mortality and readmission risk. Although these associations spanned the EF spectrum, the prognostic impact of CKM multimorbidity was greatest in HFrEF and least in HFpEF.

  • CONCLUSIONS: Heart failure is a significant global public health burden, and the impact is likely to increase as populations age. However, most HF etiologies can be prevented by interventions that reduce exposure to modifiable risk factors, such as elevated blood pressure, excessive alcohol consumption, and tobacco use. Etiology- and location-specific estimates can provide necessary information for public health officials to determine how best to prioritize interventions to reduce HF disease burden.
