  • Cardiomyocyte-expressed TGFβ programs early heart maturation and adult myocyte identity. [Journal Article]

  • Transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) is a secreted factor sequestered in the extracellular matrix (ECM), but its role in developing mouse heart maturation is unknown. Here we show that cardiomyocyte-specific deletion of Tgfb1, Tgfb2 and Tgfb3 genes (TGFβ ligands) in the developing heart results in cardiac dysfunction by 6 weeks of age, altered fibroblast activity, abnormal ECM properties and endot…
  • Translational biology of human cardiac fibrosis. [Review]
Nat Cardiovasc Res. 2026 Oct 23. [Online ahead of print]Parvathaneni A, Lavine K, Priest JRNC
  • Cardiac fibrosis is a pathological process that arises as a compensatory response to injury or mechanical stress and is a common feature across diverse cardiovascular diseases. Here, we review recent advances in the translational biology of human cardiac fibrosis, highlighting insights from single-cell studies of human cardiac fibroblasts and genetic analyses of fibrotic phenotypes using cardiac …
  • miR-100-5p modulates postprandial triglyceride response by targeting PCSK9. [Journal Article]
    Cardiovasc Res. 2026 Oct 22. [Online ahead of print]Vanduyse A, Motte A, … RESIST-PP ConsortiumCR
  • CONCLUSIONS: Taken together, our observations reveal that miR-100-5p regulates postprandial hypertriglyceridemia by targeting PCSK9, thus enhancing hepatic TGRL uptake. Our findings allow us to propose circ-miR-100-5p as a potential biomarker for early identification of subjects at high cardiovascular risk, prior to appearance of classical clinical features of metabolic disorders.
  • Complex relationship between iron status and outcomes of STEMI: hypothesis-generating study. [Journal Article]
Cardiovasc Res. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]Vera-Aviles M, Kabir SN, … OxAMI investigatorsCR
  • CONCLUSIONS: This study gives rise to the hypothesis that ID at presentation with STEMI improves long-term outcomes by attenuating myocardial injury. It reconciles previous conflicting reports by revealing the confounding effects of delayed sampling, and non-interchangeability of different ID definitions. It suggests iron chelation in the acute stage, followed by post-acute iron repletion might improve long-term outcomes.
