- Chronic thoracic aortitis versus primary medial degeneration in ascending aorta: a digital morphometric analysis of aortic layers remodelling. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Oct 23; 86:107870. [Online ahead of print]CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Digital morphometric analysis provides a reproducible and feasible method for quantifying structural remodelling in chronic aortitis. Changes in the proportions of the aortic layers, specifically intimal and adventitial expansion combined with medial thinning and severe secondary medial degeneration, can facilitate accurate differentiation of aortic wall pathologies, particularly in cases with sparse inflammation.

- Differential peri-strut vascular healing after stent deployment in swine subclavian and carotid arteries. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Oct 23; 86:107867. [Online ahead of print]CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Subclavian arteries demonstrated peri-strut delayed vascular healing characterized by persistent fibrin deposition, hemorrhage, and increased neointimal formation compared with carotid arteries despite similar stent deployment conditions. Mechanical stress associated with forelimb movement may contribute to delayed healing and subsequent neointimal formation in the subclavian artery.

- Standardized diagnosis of lymphocytic myocarditis at autopsy: Application of the Seaport criteria. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Oct 19; 86:107869. [Online ahead of print]CP
- CONCLUSIONS: The Seaport criteria are a useful tool in the autopsy setting, supporting a standardized approach to the diagnosis of lymphocytic myocarditis. Refinement of these criteria including topographic distribution of inflammation is warranted. The clinical significance of LIUS remains to be assessed in larger series with clinicopathological correlations.

- Bicuspid aortic valve with giant non-coronary sinus aneurysm compressing the sinoatrial node causing arrhythmia and coarctation of the aorta: A case on clinical decision-making and surgical challenges. [Case Reports]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Oct 16; 86:107866. [Online ahead of print]CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Direct mechanical sinoatrial node compression combined with compromised nodal arterial supply constituted the pathophysiological basis for arrhythmia. For bicuspid aortic valve with multisegmental aortic disease, individualized strategy based on anatomical characteristics, hemodynamic parameters (such as transcoarctation gradient, aortic isthmus ratio, and extremity blood pressure difference), and systemic condition is essential. Staged repair prioritizing hemodynamically threatening lesions reduces surgical trauma and spinal ischemia risk, providing clinical guidance for managing such rare complex aortic pathologies.

- Atrial Cardiomyopathy Through the Pathologist's Lens: From Tissue Remodeling to Clinical Expression. [Review]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Oct 16; :107868. [Online ahead of print]CP
- Atrial cardiomyopathy (ACM) provides a useful framework for understanding structural, architectural, contractile, and electrophysiological disease of the atria. ACM and atrial fibrillation (AF) are closely linked but are not interchangeable: ACM favors arrhythmogenesis, whereas sustained AF can accelerate atrial injury. This review considers ACM from the pathologist's perspective, encompassing pr…

- Prevalence of Sarcomeric Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in 31,325 Consecutive Forensic Autopsies from Portugal. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Sep 28; 86:107865. [Online ahead of print]CP
- CONCLUSIONS: This nationwide forensic autopsy study provides the first population-based estimate of HCM prevalence in Portugal. The observed prevalence is comparable to that reported in other populations, and highlights the substantial under-recognition of HCM during life, underscoring the value of systematic post-mortem investigation in identifying heritable cardiomyopathies.

- Audit of temporal artery biopsy reporting in South Australia. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Aug 27; :107856. [Online ahead of print]CP
- CONCLUSIONS: In South Australia, no TAB reports fully aligned with the Society for Cardiovascular Pathology reporting statement. Reporting did not improve over time, including after guideline publication. Targeted strategies are needed to standardise reporting and support better diagnostic quality and patient care.

- Calcium burden is associated with selective changes in luminal surface topography of cadaveric left anterior descending arteries. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Nov-Dec; 85:107855.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Calcium burden in cadaveric LADs is selectively associated with reduced luminal surface dale count, suggesting subtle, localized topographic remodeling rather than global surface changes.

- Degenerative histopathology in ascending aortic aneurysms: comparative analysis by aneurysm location. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Nov-Dec; 85:107854.CP
- Aortic aneurysms have traditionally been studied as a single pathological entity, with emphasis on valve morphology. While histopathological differences between bicuspid (BAV) and tricuspid (TAV) aortopathy are well documented, less is known about how these mechanisms interact with aneurysm location within the ascending aorta. This gap complicates risk assessment and surgical planning beyond diam…

- Adaptive proteomic remodeling and eNOS upregulation in luminal endothelium and perivascular adipose tissue of patent saphenous vein grafts after CABG. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Nov-Dec; 85:107853.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Patent arterial and venous bypass grafts exhibited a shared adaptive phenotype characterized by dual-site upregulation of eNOS in both the luminal endothelium and the perivascular microvessels/PVAT. In SVG-P, PTGES was co-upregulated alongside eNOS, indicating a mechanistic link between the proteomic and IHC findings. These findings highlight the perivascular compartment as a site of adaptive, eNOS-associated changes in patent vein grafts.

- Bifid cardiac apex as an incidental autopsy finding: differentiation from apical notch. Report of two forensic cases and a literature review. [Case Reports]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Nov-Dec; 85:107851.CP
- A bifid cardiac apex is a rare congenital anomaly resulting from the nonunion of the right and left ventricles at the cardiac apex, producing two distinct apical projections with a cleft between them. This article illustrates two cases with a bifid apex: the first with a deep cleft and the other with an apparently superficial indentation. Dissection of the heart confirmed separation of the myocar…

- Utility of the SCVP consensus statement of temporal artery biopsy for arteritis. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Nov-Dec; 85:107850.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: The new SCVP TAB consensus schema can be easily implemented in routine clinical practice. It is also helpful in formulating diagnoses for challenging cases, such as those with adventitial-only inflammation or non-GCA arteritis. Additionally, it provides a unified and consistent reporting scheme.

- Bioepidemiology of cardiac amyloidosis. [Journal Article]Cardiovasc Pathol. 2026 Nov-Dec; 85:107849.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: In an unselected autopsy cohort, cardiac amyloid was common, particularly ATTR in older adults. Prevalence increased steeply after age 80. These findings suggest that ATTR amyloidosis is not rare and is likely underdiagnosed and has similar prevalence in women and men, despite the male predominance reported in the literature.
