- Clonal Hematopoiesis of Indeterminate Potential Proteomic Risk Score for Predicting Clinical Outcome in Patients With Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: CHIP is associated with alterations in plasma concentrations of immune/inflammatory proteins. A CHIP-ProtRS is independently associated with adverse outcomes in HFpEF, supporting its potential role as a biomarker of risk and underlying pathobiology.

- Health-Related Quality of Life in Older Patients With Advanced Heart Failure From Before to 2 Years After Heart Transplantation or Long-Term Mechanical Circulatory Support: Findings From the SUSTAIN-IT Study. [Journal Article]Circ Heart Fail. 2026 Sep 21; :e013871. [Online ahead of print]CH
- CONCLUSIONS: HT MCS improvement in HRQOL varied by measure; HT non-MCS and long-term MCS improvement occurred through 24 months, regardless of measure. Domains of HRQOL improved after these surgeries, varying by surgical strategy and postoperative time period. Long-term MCS was associated with a decrease in HRQOL across time. These findings provide important information for patients considering treatment options.

- A Recovery-Focused Framework for the Management of Cardiogenic Shock. [Review]Circ Heart Fail. 2026 Sep; 19(9):e014307.CH
- Cardiogenic shock describes a syndrome of systemic hypoperfusion due to insufficient cardiac output. Therapeutic interventions aim to restore systemic perfusion and oxygen delivery, relieve congestion, and reverse the primary culprit pathologies that precipitate shock. Cardiogenic shock care often emphasizes acute rescue and survival; however, survival does not always equal meaningful recovery. I…

- Association Between Hospital Tiers and Cardiogenic Shock Mortality: Mitigating the Transfer Penalty Through a Regionalized Hub-and-Spoke Model. [Journal Article]Circ Heart Fail. 2026 Sep; 19(9):e014546.CH
- CONCLUSIONS: Higher hospital cardiac capability is independently associated with lower mortality among patients with cardiogenic shock. Advanced centers are associated with mitigation of transfer-associated risk, supporting regionalized hub-and-spoke systems with early referral to high-capability centers.

- Next Generation Temporary Mechanical Circulatory Support for Cardiogenic Shock. [Review]Circ Heart Fail. 2026 Sep; 19(9):e014202.CH
- Cardiogenic shock remains the leading cause of death in patients with acute myocardial infarction and severe acute heart failure. Temporary mechanical circulatory support devices have emerged as important adjuncts for restoring systemic perfusion, unloading the failing ventricle, and stabilizing patients for cardiogenic shock and during high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions. However, curr…

- Kidney Failure in Cardiogenic Shock. [Review]
- Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent and prognostically decisive complication of cardiogenic shock (CS), conferring substantially increased short- and long-term mortality. As understanding of CS has evolved beyond an isolated low-output model, AKI is increasingly recognized as a consequence of multifactorial pathophysiology encompassing venous congestion, neurohormonal dysregulation, microcirc…

- Node-Based Framework for Regionalized Cardiogenic Shock Systems of Care: Evidence, Design, and Future Directions. [Review]Circ Heart Fail. 2026 Sep; 19(9):e014188.CH
- Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a cardiovascular emergency with short-term mortality ranging from 30% to 40% despite an expanding therapeutic armamentarium. Structured systems of care have transformed outcomes in ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction, stroke, and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest through tiered hospital designations, standardized protocols, and regionalized networks, yet no analogous…

- Cardiogenic Shock Management: A Framework for Individualized Microaxial Flow Pump Support. [Review]Circ Heart Fail. 2026 Sep; 19(9):e014161.CH
- Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a highly heterogeneous syndrome with persistently high mortality despite advances in therapies, including temporary mechanical circulatory support. The disparate results of trials on temporary mechanical circulatory support in CS suggest that improved strategies, including better patient selection, are needed in the context of CS heterogeneity. Notably, a microaxial flow…

- Hypoperfusion-Shock Continuum in Acute Decompensated Heart Failure. [Review]
- Acute decompensated heart failure is a clinical syndrome characterized by upregulation of neurohormonal compensatory mechanisms that, while intended to preserve organ perfusion as a response to reduced cardiac output, progressively exacerbate systemic congestion. Perfusion, defined by adequate oxygen delivery to the tissues, is more complex than simple cardiac output and arterial inflow, and is a…
