- Epidemiology of non-strabismic binocular vision anomalies in Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Sep 29; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Across the included studies, approximately one in five participants met study-specific criteria for accommodative or vergence anomalies. However, because diagnostic criteria and symptom requirements varied and the certainty of evidence was very low, these estimates should be interpreted as indicative rather than definitive population prevalence estimates. These findings highlight the need for routine binocular vision assessment, standardised diagnostic criteria, and expanded epidemiological research to support evidence-based optometric care in Africa.

- Tonic accommodation as the physiological baseline of the accommodative system. [Review]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Sep 08; :1-12. [Online ahead of print]CE
- Understanding tonic accommodation as the physiologic baseline of the accommodative system may help clinicians interpret accommodative symptoms, refractive variability, presbyopic change, and responses to myopia-control and accommodative therapies. Accommodation is traditionally described relative to the optical far point of the eye, implicitly assuming that the distance-focused state represents p…

- Gender differences in myopic regression, corneal haze, and ectasia after corneal refractive surgery: a retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Sep 06; :1-11. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that clinical and surgical characteristics, rather than sex alone, should guide risk assessment and postoperative counselling.

- Prominent clinical, structural, and vascular features of adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy: a comparative study with subgroup analysis. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Sep 03; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: AFVD is characterised by reduced visual acuity, age-related lesion enlargement, and decreased macular and choriocapillaris vessel density. Advanced longitudinal multimodal imaging may contribute to understanding the disease aetiopathogenesis.

- Systemic inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers associated with anatomical and visual outcomes after intravitreal bevacizumab for diabetic macular oedema. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Sep 01; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: HALP and prognostic nutritional index were not independently associated with anatomical or visual outcomes following bevacizumab treatment in diabetic macular oedema. Baseline ocular characteristics, particularly central macular thickness and best corrected visual acuity, showed stronger associations with treatment outcomes than systemic inflammatory-nutritional indices.

- CONCLUSIONS: Although causality cannot be established from a single case, recent glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist exposure may be relevant when evaluating atypical optic neuropathy in younger patients.

- CONCLUSIONS: Most systems remain at the technical validation or early clinical feasibility stage. Broader implementation requires stronger analytical and clinical validation, patient-centred outcomes, regulatory planning, usability evidence, and safeguards for privacy and interoperability.

- Repeatability of near point of fixation disparity test. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 30; :1-11. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Although the NPFD test can achieve acceptable intraexaminer repeatability, its interexaminer reliability remains poor, raising concerns about its use as a diagnostic tool across different examiners. Vergence assessments should be performed by the same examiner, and changes of less than 10-15 prism dioptres should be interpreted with caution. Standardisation of testing protocols is strongly recommended to improve the clinical applicability of these tests.

- Beyond static assessment: dynamic accommodative behaviour across refractive states. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 30; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Although accommodative responses during stimulation were similar across refractive groups, hyperopes and myopes showed incomplete accommodative relaxation after higher demands, and myopes exhibited greater instability during and after accommodation. Residual accommodation and microfluctuations provide valuable insights into dynamic accommodative behaviour across refractive errors.
