- Autonomic Reactivity and EEG-defined Clusters Reveal Distinct Chronic Pain Profiles. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Nov 02. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Integrating HRV-EEG profiles may help characterize CPSS heterogeneity. These exploratory findings, without study-wide multiplicity adjustment, require independent validation before clinical application.

- Heterogeneity In The Effects of Weight Reduction on Pain And Physical Function In Knee Osteoarthritis: A causal forest analysis of the Osteoarthritis Initiative. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Oct 28. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight the potential value of individualized weight-loss strategies and suggest that patient characteristics may help identify those most likely to benefit from weight reduction.

- Nociplastic Questionnaire (NociQ): Development and Initial Validation. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Oct 26. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Results indicate four nociplastic pain characteristics, including two, location variability and exacerbation by thoughts and emotions, psychometrically validated here for the first time. The 16-item NociQ demonstrates promising reliability and validity as a brief questionnaire of nociplastic pain. Future research should examine its clinical utility, such as in matching patients to pain mechanism-targeted treatments.

- Assessing the Clinical Value of the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory - Computerized Adaptive Test (PEDI-CAT) in Measuring Self-Reported Disability in Youth Undergoing Intensive Interdisciplinary Pain Treatment (IIPT). [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The PEDI-CAT adapted for self-report measured meaningful improvements in disability in youth with chronic pain undergoing IIPT. Further evaluation of the PEDI-CAT psychometrics in youth with chronic pain is warranted.

- Associations Between Pain Acceptance and Opioid Use Among Adults Living with Chronic Pain: A Systematic Review. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Oct 15. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: This systematic review highlights that pain acceptance may be a protective factor for attenuating opioid use and misuse among adults with chronic pain. Further clinical research is needed to explore whether pain acceptance can be leveraged to decrease opioid use and misuse.

- Thermal Quantitative Sensory Testing in Zoster-related Pain: Profiles and Mechanistic Insights. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Sep 28. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Pathologic-contralateral thermal asymmetry was the most consistent finding across HZ and PHN, supporting segmental thermal sensory dysfunction across pain stages. Between-group WDT-P differences and HZ clinical-status findings warrant prospective evaluation but do not establish stage-specific or prognostic effects.

- Is Exercise Effective at Reducing Pain Catastrophizing in People with Chronic Non-Specific Spinal Pain? A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Sep 25. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that exercise interventions may potentially be effective for reducing pain catastrophizing. Nevertheless, the overall certainty of evidence was rated very low to low such that higher quality studies are needed.

- Factors Protecting Against Co-Occurring Pain, Psychological, and Somatic Symptom Trajectories in Adolescence. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Sep 16. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Findings underscore the potential importance of enhancing youths' family support, coping, and positive peer relationships to co-PPSS resilience.

- Moderators of the Effects of Telehealth Mindfulness-based Interventions for Chronic Pain: A Secondary Responder Analysis of the LAMP Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Sep 10. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Overall, both MBIs benefitted participants across subgroups, with limited evidence for differential effects by gender or mental health diagnoses. Further research is needed to more systematically determine whether MBIs can be optimized for key subgroups.

- Pain Trajectories and Influencing Factors After Total Joint Arthroplasty: A Longitudinal Data Analysis. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Sep 07. [Online ahead of print]CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: There are three heterogeneous trajectories of postoperative pain after TJA. We recommend implementing stratified interventions based on key factors, including the preoperative WOMAC score, preoperative pain duration, and time-specific postoperative analgesic regimens, providing a new approach to precise analgesia.

- The Role of Stress-related Biomarkers, Immune-inflammatory Pathways, and Genetic Polymorphisms in Cognitive-behavioral Therapies for Chronic Low Back Pain and Depression: Results from a Randomized Controlled Trial (the IMPACT study). [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: While ACT and BATD improved clinical outcomes, their effects on immune-inflammatory biomarkers were not significant. Nevertheless, specific baseline biomarkers and genetic factors may serve as predictors of treatment response. These findings underscore the need to further explore the interaction between psychological therapies, biological processes, and individual variability in treatment outcomes.

- CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that shortened CSP duration reflects impaired spinal inhibition in LRP. While both DRG-PRF and TFESI were equally effective in reducing pain and disability, only DRG-PRF modified CSP parameters, indicating a potential central neuromodulatory effect. CSP evaluation may serve as an objective biomarker to clarify the mechanisms underlying interventional pain treatments.

- The Effect of Behavioral Interventions That Include Goal Setting on Pain, Disability, and Physical Activity in People With Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Behavioral interventions that include goal setting may produce small improvements in pain and disability in adults with chronic musculoskeletal pain, but effects on physical activity are unclear. If clinicians choose to include goal setting within a behavioral intervention, they should consider how it could be best implemented to guide behaviour change and support evidenced-based management.

- Pain Phenotyping in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Based on IASP Criteria: A Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Nov 01; 42(11).CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In this study, approximately half of the patients were classified as neuropathic pain phenotype, and the other half as mixed pain phenotype. Patients with a mixed pain phenotype exhibited worse clinical, functional, and electrodiagnostic profiles compared to those with neuropathic pain. Pain phenotyping may support improved clinical characterization and patient stratification in CTS.

- Variables Associated With Prescription Opioid Misuse in Individuals With Chronic Noncancer Pain: Development and Initial Validation of the Prescription Opioid Misuse Risk Detection Scale (EDRIMO). [Journal Article]Clin J Pain. 2026 Nov 01; 42(11).CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The EDRIMO was designed for easy administration to facilitate its use in clinical settings. It could provide clinicians with information on areas that may increase patients' risk of misuse, which should be addressed before prescribing opioids.
