- Cost analysis of low vision care rehabilitative services from the perspectives of patients in India. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 19; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Although the cost represented almost one-fifth of an average monthly income, the benefits outweigh the cost incurred by the patient. Disability-adjusted life years were reduced by half, and the provision of low vision clinical rehabilitation services was beneficial based on the benefit-cost ratio.

- Factors associated with macular oedema regression and visual outcomes after dexamethasone implant therapy in uveitic macular oedema. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 11; :1-11. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Dexamethasone implant treatment provided favourable short-term anatomical and visual outcomes in patients with non-infectious uveitic macular oedema, although repeat treatment was frequently required. Baseline clinical and optical coherence tomography characteristics were associated with treatment response and may help characterise the expected outcomes following dexamethasone implant treatment.

- Lower-eyelid meibography findings across angiography-defined coronary artery disease severity. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 11; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: This highly selected retrospective cohort showed an age- and sex-adjusted association between crude angiographic coronary artery disease grouping and lower-eyelid meibomian gland loss, whereas non-invasive tear break-up time did not differ between groups. These preliminary findings should not be interpreted as evidence that isolated lower-eyelid structural gland loss directly reflects tear film instability, mechanistic vascular injury, systemic screening value, or clinical practice relevance.

- Evaluation of retinal layers following pars plana vitrectomy in idiopathic and diabetic epiretinal membrane. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 11; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Although most retinal segmentation parameters showed similar postoperative changes in both idiopathic epiretinal membrane and diabetic epiretinal membrane, diabetic epiretinal membrane eyes demonstrated greater impairment of outer retinal biomarkers. Preoperative subfoveal fluid may be associated with postoperative visual outcomes in diabetic epiretinal membrane and warrants further investigation in larger prospective studies. Vitrectomy yielded beneficial anatomical and functional results in both groups.

- Will today's undergraduate optometrists provide tomorrow's low vision services? [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 10; :1-12. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: There is scope to increase the confidence of undergraduate optometrists in LV before they enter the professional workforce and increasing undergraduate clinical experiences with LV patients will arguably yield important benefits. However, concurrent interventions aimed at increasing LV service provision in primary care practices appear necessary to improve student perceptions of their future opportunities to provide LV services.

- Efficacy of autologous serum in managing post-cataract dry eye: an in vivo confocal microscopy-based comparative analysis. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 06; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Compared with sodium hyaluronate, 20% autologous serum was associated with greater improvements in clinical outcomes and a greater reduction in dendritic cell density, providing objective microstructural evidence of reduced ocular surface inflammation. Prospective randomised studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

- Refractive outcomes during transition from ultrasound to optical biometry in cataract surgery: a real-world study from a resource-limited setting. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 06; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: In this real-world study from a resource-limited clinical setting, eyes measured with optical biometry demonstrated lower prediction errors and higher refractive accuracy than eyes measured with ultrasound biometry. However, given the retrospective and non-contemporaneous nature of the study groups, these findings should be interpreted as an association rather than definitive evidence of superiority. Higher preoperative corneal astigmatism was independently associated with reduced refractive accuracy.

- Vision, hearing, and dementia in older adults receiving home care services: implications for optometric practice. [Review]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Aug 05; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]CE
- Vision and hearing impairments are common in older adults and are often comorbid with dementia. These conditions exacerbate the impact of dementia, and outcomes for those with dual sensory impairment are considerably worse than for people with single sensory impairment. This narrative review synthesises current evidence on the intersection of vision, hearing, and cognitive impairment, outlining p…

- Intraocular retinoblastoma features and treatment outcomes according to patient age at initial presentation. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Jul 30; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Retinoblastoma patients with a family history are diagnosed at earlier ages. The incidence of group D and E retinoblastoma increases in older ages. Starting chemoreduction at an early age allows for better tumour control and increases eye preservation rates. No deaths were observed among the patients included in the study.

- Assessment of retinal and optic disc microvasculature after strabismus surgery by optical coherence tomography angiography. [Journal Article]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Jul 29; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Although recession surgery did not significantly influence the microcirculation of the deeper retina and optic disc in the early postoperative period, it seemed to be associated with decreased superficial vessel density which could be suggesting a possible link to hypoperfusion and ischaemia. Further studies are needed to investigate the long-term effects of bilateral symmetric recession surgery for horizontal strabismus on the microcirculation of the retina and optic nerve head.

- Reconsidering pterygium in the context of focal limbal stem cell dysfunction. [Review]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Jul 28; :1-5. [Online ahead of print]CE
- Limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) is traditionally regarded as a rare ocular surface disorder characterised by impaired corneal epithelial regeneration. Emerging evidence suggests that pterygium, a common fibrovascular lesion extending onto the cornea, may involve focal limbal epithelial or niche dysfunction. This narrative review examines clinical, histopathological and biological evidence rele…

- Soft contact lens wear in children: benefits and limitations. [Review]Clin Exp Optom. 2026 Jul 23; :1-12. [Online ahead of print]CE
- Soft contact lens wear in children offers an appealing alternative to spectacles and has emerged as an area of significant interest, particularly within the context of the increasing prevalence of myopia. However, despite the advantages and growing acceptance of soft contact lens wear in children, spectacles remain the predominant method of vision correction for this group. This narrative literat…
