  • Predicting LARS with POLARS: Results of a multicentre study. [Multicenter Study]
    Colorectal Dis. 2026 Nov; 28(11).Klimovskij M, Fortunato R, … Dulskas ACD
  • CONCLUSIONS: POLARS showed weak positive correlation with postoperative bowel function and demonstrated low sensitivity but moderate specificity for major LARS. It systematically overestimated LARS severity in many patients. While POLARS may help identify some individuals at elevated risk, it is insufficient as a stand-alone tool for accurate prediction of postoperative LARS severity and should be combined with clinical judgement and patient-reported follow-up.
  • The marginal gains of robotic surgery in colorectal cancer. [Journal Article]
Colorectal Dis. 2026 Nov; 28(11).Johansen MP, Rosberg V, … Krarup PMCD
  • CONCLUSIONS: Robotic surgery was associated with a 2.5-fold increased rate of a 'perfect' operation for colorectal cancer and reduced LOS after rectal resection, supporting the concept of cumulative marginal gains associated with robotic surgery.
  • Current rates, hospital variation and factors associated with optimal surgical resection of rectal cancer in the United States. [Journal Article]
    Colorectal Dis. 2026 Oct; 28(10):e70657.Karakozis L, Abdelmasseh M, … Aquina CTCD
  • CONCLUSIONS: Possible disparities in achieving optimal surgical resection were identified among older and Black patients. In addition, there is wide hospital variation in achieving optimal surgical resection along with a direct correlation between higher hospital volume and optimal surgical resection. These findings support selective referral to medium-to-high volume centres to achieve better outcomes and future research into the aetiology of these possible disparities.
  • Telemedicine interventions after colorectal surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
Colorectal Dis. 2026 Oct; 28(10):e70647.Gimon TI, Johnson G, … Kennedy ECD
  • CONCLUSIONS: Telemedicine interventions may lead to little difference in readmissions or emergency department visits after colorectal surgery. Telemedicine may improve patient satisfaction versus usual care. Evidence was of low certainty, indicating a need for larger randomized trials and high-quality observational studies with appropriate design and analysis to minimize confounding.
