- Pleasure and compulsion in gaming: distinct roles of hedonic and compulsive game use in gaming involvement. [Journal Article]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Oct; 151:152750.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Hedonic and compulsive game use showed distinct patterns of association with gaming involvement. The stronger relevance of hedonic game use among non-IGD gamers and the broader cross-sectional and prospective associations of compulsive game use are broadly compatible with stage-related theoretical accounts. These findings may help refine the behavioral characterization of problematic gaming and highlight the value of longitudinal research examining how different gaming-specific tendencies relate to the development and persistence of problematic gaming.

- Emotional and social loneliness in the longitudinal association between alexithymia and depressive symptoms. [Journal Article]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Oct; 151:152752.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: The indirect prospective association between alexithymia and depressive symptoms was small but stronger through emotional than social loneliness. These findings highlight the potential relevance of qualitative aspects of loneliness to depressive symptoms.

- Stress, coping, and alcohol use in wartime Ukraine: Findings from a national cross-sectional survey. [Journal Article]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Oct; 151:152748.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Alcohol use during wartime in Ukraine was more strongly associated with individual coping strategies and trauma exposure than with residence in high-risk areas. While men reported higher overall consumption, avoidant coping showed a stronger association with alcohol use among women. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening adaptive coping and trauma-informed, gender-sensitive interventions to prevent escalation of alcohol-related harm.

- Interoception in psychiatry: A systematic scoping review on concepts, methods and clinical impact. [Review]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Oct; 151:152747.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Interoception-focused interventions show consistent positive effects across psychiatric populations and represent a promising avenue for clinical practice. However, variability in definitions and measurement currently limits translation into standardized care. Future research should prioritize clearer conceptualization, multi-method assessment strategies, and greater attention to individual differences to support more personalized and effective interoception-based treatments.

- Neural correlates of imbalanced habitual and goal-directed behaviors in obsessive-compulsive disorder. [Journal Article]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Oct; 151:152746.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that compulsive behavior in OCD is associated with impaired goal-directed behavior and excessive habitual responding, accompanied by alterations in IFG-centered regulatory networks that may contribute to impaired arbitration between habitual and goal-directed systems.

- Predictors of quality of life in OCD: Machine-derived features beyond expert consensus. [Journal Article]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Oct; 151:152737.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Expert knowledge captured much of the variance in QoL in OCD, but data-driven approaches improved predictive accuracy and identified novel factors. QoL was most strongly predicted by depression severity, anxiety severity, and social context rather than OCD severity alone, suggesting that clinical assessment and treatment planning should routinely consider broader affective and psychosocial difficulties alongside OCD symptoms.

- Childhood trauma, cognitive control, and psychopathology in transitional-age youth: A mediation study. [Multicenter Study]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Oct; 151:152745.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Childhood trauma was associated with TAY psychopathology, and self-reported cognitive control was associated with this relationship across CP and NCP. Although causal inference is limited by cross-sectional design, these findings suggest that self-reported cognitive control may warrant further investigation as a transdiagnostic correlate in future longitudinal and intervention studies on the trauma-psychopathology relationship.

- Antipsychotic-induced movement disorders among patients with severe mental illness in Africa: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Oct; 151:152744.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: AIMDs remain common among individuals with SMI in African settings, affecting nearly one-third of treated patients. Female sex, higher antipsychotic dose, longer treatment duration, and current substance use were associated with increased risk. These results underscore the continued clinical burden of AIMDs and the need for cautious prescribing, routine monitoring, and integrated management of modifiable risk factors, including substance use.

- Obsessional slowness as a transdiagnostic phenomenon: Clinical correlates in obsessive-compulsive and anxiety-related disorders. [Journal Article]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Sep; 150:152743.CP
- Obsessional slowness (OS) is a controversial clinical construct whose defining feature is a disabling degree of motor slowness. The present study examined OS in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) (n = 50) and social anxiety disorder (SAD) (n = 30) using the newly developed Obsessional Slowness Scale (OSS) alongside other clinical and psychometric measures. Exploratory factor ana…

- Prevalence of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress symptoms among black post-secondary students in North America: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Sep; 150:152742.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Black students experience a substantial burden of depression, anxiety, and PTSD, with pooled symptom prevalence estimates comparable to those of other racial groups. Post-secondary institutions can play a critical role in fostering equitable environments and improving mental health and academic outcomes for Black students.

- Remission and response rates in obsessive-compulsive disorder: Naturalistic study. [Journal Article]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Sep; 150:152740.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: A comprehensive, high-intensity framework integrating OLHD-SRIs and technologically enhanced ERP can achieve remission rates that exceed those typically reported in naturalistic studies. These findings offer a meaningful pathway for clinical recovery in patients who fail to respond to standard protocols.

- Apathy phenotypes in depression and dementia: A latent profile analysis. [Journal Article]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Sep; 150:152741.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings support the multidimensional nature of apathy and highlight distinct motivational profiles across MDD and MND. Identifying such specific apathy clinical patterns may improve differential diagnosis and support more targeted clinical assessment and treatment strategies.

- Long-term impact of attacks on health care on mental health and workforce retention among healthcare workers in protracted emergency settings: East of the Democratic Republic of Congo. [Journal Article]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Sep; 150:152739.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: The study provides rare findings on the high burden of probable serious mental health and the associated risk of workforce turnover due to long-term exposure to AHC among HCWs in South Kivu, DRC. The findings thus highlight the critical need for mental health interventions and workforce retention strategies in conflict-affected regions. Further investigation is warranted to inform the development of targeted support programs and policies to address these challenges.

- Heart rate variability and anxiety severity: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Compr Psychiatry. 2026 Sep; 150:152738.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Selected HRV parameters showed associations with anxiety severity, especially HF with BAI and HAM-A, and LF/HF with STAI. While HRV is not a replacement for psychometric scales, it may contribute as a complementary tool for characterising autonomic regulation associated with anxiety severity.
