  • Impact of calcium fluoride loading on the physicochemical and antibacterial properties of different pit and fissure sealants. [Journal Article]
Dent Mater. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]Choi Y, Lee SY, … Chung SHDM
  • CONCLUSIONS: The incorporation of CaF2 into pit and fissure sealants has been demonstrated to enhance fluoride release and antibacterial activity without compromising most physicochemical properties. However, higher concentrations of CaF2 resulted in a reduced degree of conversion for USH, a more hydrophilic sealant. Overall, loading up to 5 wt% CaF2 into commercial dental sealants resulted in an optimal balance between antibacterial effects and material physicochemical properties.
  • Tolerance of universal adhesives to saliva and gingival crevicular fluid contamination of dentin. [Journal Article]
Dent Mater. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]Tu S, Dong H, … Xie HDM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Universal-adhesive tolerance was contaminant- and load-dependent. Mild residual contamination had limited effects for some formulations, whereas severe GCF contamination compromised polymerization, interfacial sealing, and long-term bond durability. Residual wetting may persist despite routine moisture control and GCF management; moisture-tolerant adhesives should complement, not replace, strict moisture control and periodontal inflammation management.
  • Reinforcement of glass ionomer cement using ultralong hydroxyapatite nanowires. [Journal Article]
Dent Mater. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]Zhang Y, Li KC, … Mei MLDM
  • CONCLUSIONS: UHANWs provide a biomimetic reinforcement strategy for GICs by leveraging the composition and high-aspect-ratio architecture of hydroxyapatite, a major inorganic component of natural tooth tissues. An optimal UHANW content (6 wt%) achieves a favorable balance between mechanical reinforcement, setting kinetics, and abrasion resistance, supporting its potential application in stress-bearing restorative dentistry.
  • Transparent 3D-printable biointeractive surfaces enable real-time oral biofilm investigation under controlled flow. [Journal Article]
Dent Mater. 2026 Oct 02. [Online ahead of print]Lee MY, Mangal U, … Choi SHDM
  • CONCLUSIONS: CYTO more closely replicated the biointeractive behavior of HA than conventional PDMS-based materials while maintaining optical transparency and direct printability. The developed platform enables real-time oral biofilm analysis and hydrodynamically controlled irrigation studies in complex geometries, providing an experimental approach beyond conventional static biofilm models and PDMS-based microfluidic systems.
