- Depression and Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction: An Inflammatory Perspective. [Review]Depress Anxiety. 2026; 2026:7169650.DA
- Depression is a common comorbidity in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), suggesting potential epidemiological and pathophysiological connections between these two age-related chronic diseases. Extensive clinical evidence demonstrates that depression is closely associated with both the incidence and prognosis of HFpEF. It is currently believed that depression may…

- Altered Inhibitory Control Across Subclinical Depression and Major Depressive Disorder: Evidence From Stroop Tasks and Diffusion Modeling. [Journal Article]Depress Anxiety. 2026; 2026:5711923.DA
- Inhibitory control deficits are central to cognitive dysfunction in major depressive disorder (MDD), yet how such deficits vary across subclinical depression and MDD remains unclear. Childhood trauma may further contribute to variability in inhibitory control. This study examined behavioral and computational markers of inhibitory control across nonemotional and emotional contexts in healthy, subc…

- HADS-Assessed Anxiety/Depression Status and Ocular Outcomes in Vision-Threatening Diabetic Retinopathy: A Multicenter Retrospective Cohort Study. [Multicenter Study]Depress Anxiety. 2026; 2026:6998782.DA
- CONCLUSIONS: Depressive symptoms are independently associated with worse ocular prognoses in VTDR patients. Systematic psychological screening and intervention is essential to mitigate vision deterioration risk in this population.

- Magnitude and Associated Factors of Depressive Symptoms Among Adult Patients With Cirrhosis: An Experience From a Resource-Limited Setting. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Clinically significant depressive symptoms were identified in 9.0% of adults with cirrhosis. More advanced liver disease and poorer social support were associated with depressive symptoms. These findings underscore the critical need for integrated mental health screening and psychosocial interventions within routine cirrhosis care in resource-limited settings.

- Latent Profiles of Psychological Distress and Suicidal Ideation Among Nursing Students: A Cross-Sectional Study of Associated Factors. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Nursing students exhibit three profiles, with 8.8% belonging to C3. Profile-informed screening and preventive strategies considering factors associated with profile membership (sleep quality, internet addiction, exercise frequency, time management, self-esteem, and self-efficacy) and contextual stressors (institution type, BMI, and parental relationship) may inform future screening approaches for students exhibiting elevated psychological distress and suicidal ideation patterns.

- Preliminary Development of a Peer Willingness Scale for Depression and Analysis of Associated Factors Among Chinese College Students: A Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Findings support the BIWD scale as a useful tool for assessing peer intervention willingness. Initiatives to reduce personal stigma, family functioning enhancement, and targeted self-efficacy training, especially for students experiencing mental health symptoms, may strengthen peer-based support for depression.

- Assessing the Impact of Metacognitive Therapy on OCD Severity and Beliefs: A Three-Wave Multisite RCT With Panel Mediation Analysis. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic and disabling condition, and although exposure and response prevention (ERP) is the first-line psychological treatment, many patients decline it, drop out, or retain residual symptoms. According to Wells' metacognitive model, OCD is maintained less by intrusive thoughts themselves than by metacognitive beliefs about the significance, danger, and co…

- Altered Fronto-Cingulate Connectivity During Social Competition and Cooperation in Adolescents With Major Depressive Disorder: An fNIRS Hyperscanning Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Adolescent MDD involves context-dependent neural deficits in social cognition, suggesting targets for neuromodulatory interventions.

- Plasma Proteomic Landscape of Multidimensional Sleep Health and Its Association With Depression Risk Under Genetic Susceptibility. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study characterizes the plasma proteomic profile of multidimensional sleep health and identifies sleep-associated proteomic signatures related to incident depression across levels of genetic susceptibility. These findings highlight potential biological pathways for further investigation and require independent replication and causal validation before clinical interpretation.

- Childhood Trauma, Recent Stressors, and Risk of Depression Relapse in Late-Life Depression. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: We found that exposure to emotional neglect in childhood and stressors later in life both were associated with relapse of LLD, and a history of childhood neglect moderated the relationship between recent stressor exposure and relapse. These findings are consistent with, and extend, the robust research evidence base linking psychological neglect with depression in adolescence and adulthood.

- Comparative Analysis of Antidepressant Mechanisms and Side Effects: Network Pharmacology and Molecular Docking Study of Amitriptyline, Mirtazapine, and Escitalopram for Treating Major Depressive Disorder. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: All three drugs regulated serotonin, norepinephrine (NE), and dopamine, but target specificity, pathways, and binding patterns differed. Amitriptyline exhibited stronger antidepressant effects and broader mechanisms but a higher risk of side effects. Mirtazapine's dual mechanism regulates broad targets with reliable efficacy and fewer side effects. Escitalopram selectively acts on serotonin-related targets, with narrow actions and potentially fewer side effects. These findings align with the clinical profiles of the antidepressant efficacy and side effects.

- A Randomized Controlled Trial of a Digital Stepped-Care Program to Reduce Anxiety and Depressive Symptoms Among Long-Term Care Workers With Psychological Distress: The REPICAL Study. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence supporting the effectiveness of a digital and scalable stepped-care program to support LTCWs' mental health. These robust findings may inform occupational and public health strategies for supporting LTCWs' experiencing psychological distress. Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT05526235.

- Dual Sensory Impairment and Depressive Symptoms: Association and Pathways in Three Cohorts and a Meta-Analysis. [Meta-Analysis]
- CONCLUSIONS: DSI is consistently associated with depressive symptoms in middle-aged and older adults across China, the United States, and England. Both reduced social engagement and cognitive decline significantly mediated this association, with comparable effect sizes. The mediation effects are largely robust, with instability observed only in one sensitivity analysis.

- Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Associations Between Dietary Intake and Depressive Symptoms in Young South African Adults: The African-PREDICT Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Higher milk intake was associated with lower incident depression, while higher calcium, vegetable and fibre intake were associated with lower depression prevalence, but not when adjusting for sociodemographic information. These findings suggest that sociodemographic context should be considered alongside dietary strategies to support prevention efforts for common mental disorders in young adults. Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03292094.
