  • CONCLUSIONS: Currently, people under the age of 45 have a low overall understanding of early-onset colorectal cancer, and most are unaware of their own family history of colorectal cancer and colon polyps. Several important roadblocks to gaining information and/or seeking care for early-onset colorectal cancer were also identified. These findings will be used to inform future efforts of the Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer Awareness Campaign. See Video Abstract.

  • Trends and Survival Outcomes of Adjuvant Chemotherapy in Low-Risk Stage II Colon Cancer: A National Cancer Database Analysis. [Journal Article]
Dis Colon Rectum. 2026 Sep 30. [Online ahead of print]Kahana N, Perets M, … Emile SHDC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Although adjuvant chemotherapy use in low-risk Stage II colon cancer has decreased over time, it continues to be administered, especially among younger patients. In this retrospective analysis of low-risk Stage II colon cancer, we were unable to identify a survival advantage with chemotherapy. Guideline-defined high-risk criteria, rather than subjective clinical judgement, should remain the basis for treatment decisions. This conclusion is timely given that colorectal cancer has become the most common cause of cancer deaths in patients < 50 years. See Video Abstract.

Dis Colon Rectum. 2026 Sep 25. [Online ahead of print]Bhattacharya A, Schultz KS, … Mongiu AKDC
  • CONCLUSIONS: Unhealthy food environments were independently associated with worse survival among patients with early-onset colorectal cancer, suggesting that the neighborhood food environment may be a modifiable structural determinant of early-onset colorectal cancer outcomes.
