- Comparison of the effectiveness and efficiency of clear aligners and fixed appliances in the presurgical orthodontic treatment of skeletal Class III malocclusion: a retrospective study. [Journal Article]Eur J Orthod. 2026 Aug 06; 48(5).EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In this retrospective cohort, CA were associated with shorter recorded presurgical treatment, fewer visits and greater maxillary incisor decompensation than FA. The nonextraction duration association became marginal once the delivery wait was incorporated, whereas the extraction-stratum association was largely preserved. Prospective controlled studies are needed to confirm these findings.

- Computer-aided indirect bonding versus traditional direct bonding of orthodontic brackets: bonding accuracy and bonding failures. A split mouth randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: There were no statistically significant differences in bonding accuracy and in bracket survival between computer-aided indirect and direct bonding methods.

- Metabolomic analysis of gingival crevicular fluid for dental age and skeletal maturity assessment in growing individuals. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Several distinct metabolites showed coherent associations with skeletal and dental maturation. Additional studies employing complementary analytical methods and broader metabolome profiling are necessary to validate their association with tooth and bone growth pathways.

- Artificial intelligence for facial attractiveness assessment in orthodontics: model development and evaluation. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The proposed model closely approximated human ratings of facial attractiveness and demonstrated predictive accuracy. These findings support the potential of AI-based tools to provide more consistent aesthetic assessments in orthodontics. Future research should include diverse populations to improve generalizability and clinical applicability.

- The relationship between maxillary and mandibular third molar germ stages and skeletal orthodontic malocclusions. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: (i) No significant correlation exists between maxillary/mandibular transverse skeletal widths and third molar germ formation stages. (ii) Skeletal Class III patients in the early mixed dentition period demonstrate accelerated development of tooth 48, likely reflecting advanced sagittal mandibular growth.

- Comparison of automated algorithm-based versus manual dental landmark placement for model analysis and evaluation of orthodontic quality indices. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The automatic placement of landmarks generally showed acceptable deviations, with the exception of vestibular marginal gingival landmarks. However, the automatic detection of landmarks and orthodontic indices should always be reviewed by a clinician.

- Osteoclast-specific HIF-1α regulates hypoxia-associated bone remodeling during orthodontic tooth movement. [Journal Article]Eur J Orthod. 2026 Aug 06; 48(5).EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Osteoclast-intrinsic HIF-1α contributes to force-induced bone remodeling and promotes osteoclast differentiation n through a TFRC-associated pathway. Modulation of hypoxia-responsive mechanisms may provide a potential approach to influence orthodontic treatment outcomes.

- Frontal sinus morphology and maturation determination. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Frontal sinus morphometry showed high reliability and meaningful associations with age and maturation indicators. However, as AUC values ranged from moderate to good (0.655-0.846) and diagnostic performance varied by sex, maturation system, and transition stage, frontal sinus morphometry should be regarded as a supplementary rather than a standalone or definitive indicator of skeletal maturation, pending longitudinal validation.

- Treatment outcomes of different TAD patterns in clear aligner therapy for maxillary incisor retraction after premolar extraction. [Journal Article]Eur J Orthod. 2026 Aug 06; 48(5).EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In CAT cases involving maxillary incisor retraction following premolar extraction, P-TADs and AP-TADs patterns were associated with notable clinical treatment outcomes. These preliminary findings may provide prognostic indication for the management of such cases in the future.

- Accuracy of the registration of a digital dental cast or intraoral scan into a stereophotogrammetric image of the face: a systematic review. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: The accuracy of the registration of a digital dental cast or intraoral scan into a facial scan is clinically acceptable. Most, but not all outcomes met the 2 mm or 2 degree threshold, depending on anatomical region, image acquisition, and measurement method. A 3D image of the face with an integrated digital dental cast or intraoral scan may be a promising radiation-free method for orthodontic diagnostics and treatment planning. However, due to the inconsistency in different registration methods and small sample sizes, the accuracy is yet to be further investigated.

- Dental midline localization: development and validation of an automated deep learning pipeline. [Journal Article]Eur J Orthod. 2026 Jun 02; 48(4).EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The automated pipeline showed high accuracy for dental midline localization on posed smile photographs relative to an orthodontist-derived reference standard. Further validation on larger and more diverse datasets is needed before clinical application.
