- Subcutaneous and Extravascular Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillators: A Clinical Framework for Breast Surgery, Pregnancy, Lactation, Radiation Therapy, and Breast Imaging. [Journal Article]Europace. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]E
- The subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator and extravascular implantable cardioverter-defibrillator do not require intravascular, intracardiac, or epicardial leads, making them attractive alternatives to transvenous implantable cardioverter defibrillators in patients without bradycardia pacing or cardiac resynchronization therapy indications. These systems are especially useful for p…

- Non-invasive assessment of left atrial activation using lead V8 during Bachmann bundle pacing. [Journal Article]Europace. 2026 Sep 25. [Online ahead of print]E
- CONCLUSIONS: NDAT-P-V8 closely reflects the invasively determined timing of the posterolateral LA activation and provides a simple non-invasive marker to assess the effect of BBP on LA activation. Lead V8 may therefore help to assess and optimize atrial activation with BBP.

- Safety and Efficacy of Left Atrial Ablation After Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion in High-Bleeding-Risk Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: A Multicenter Analysis from the PROCEED-AF Ablation Registry. [Journal Article]Europace. 2026 Sep 25. [Online ahead of print]E
- CONCLUSIONS: In a large, international registry of patients undergoing catheter ablation for AF with pre-existing LAAO devices, ablation was feasible and device related complications were rare Despite higher bleeding risk in an LAAO population, 84% of patients with prior LAAO tolerated short term OAC post-ablation with bleeding events at expected rates for this population.

- Progressive Conduction System Disease Preceding Hypertrophy in IVS4 + 919G > A Fabry Variant: a Population-based Electrocardiographic Study. [Journal Article]Europace. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]E
- CONCLUSIONS: IVS4 + 919G > A variant is characterized by a progressive electrical phenotype dominated by conduction system disease preceding hypertrophy without excess major arrhythmic events. Electrocardiographic surveillance and phenotype-based risk stratification may be more informative than structural assessment alone for identifying individuals at risk of device therapy.

- Sphingomyelin as a key negative mediator in atrial fibrillation via lipid profiling analysis and functional identification. [Journal Article]Europace. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]E
- CONCLUSIONS: Together, these findings highlight the therapeutic potential of sphingomyelin and SMPD inhibitors in mitigating AF through inhibition of the Rap1 signaling pathway, thereby establishing the targeting of sphingomyelin metabolism as a viable and novel treatment strategy for AF.

- Early rhythm control in patients with atrial fibrillation and cancer: A subgroup analysis of the EAST-AFNET 4 trial. [Journal Article]Europace. 2026 Sep 18. [Online ahead of print]E
- CONCLUSIONS: Early rhythm control therapy appears effective in patients with AF and a history of cancer but may be less safe than in patients without cancer, in this hypothesis-generating analysis. This could be play of chance but warrants further research into the safety and efficacy of rhythm control therapy in patients with a cancer history.

- Yield of Atrial Fibrillation Screening according to Methodology and Patient Characteristics: An Individual Participant Data Meta-Analysis of 34,165 Individuals Screened for Atrial Fibrillation within the AFFECT-EU/AF-SCREEN Collaboration. [Journal Article]Europace. 2026 Sep 18. [Online ahead of print]E
- CONCLUSIONS: In this meta-analysis, AF screening yield varied substantially by patient characteristics and screening approach. Advanced age, male sex, and HF were independently associated with greater AF detection, particularly in those having single-timepoint screening. Our findings support tailoring the screening approach to the individual target population in clinical practice. Further studies to assess clinical outcomes following screening are needed and underway.

- Nav1.5 Beyond Genetics: Loss of Cardiac Sodium-Channel Function in Brugada Syndrome. [Journal Article]Europace. 2026 Sep 18. [Online ahead of print]E
- Brugada syndrome is usually interpreted through SCN5A genetics, yet many patients with a Brugada phenotype carry no clearly pathogenic SCN5A variant and penetrance among carriers is incomplete. Cardiac sodium-channel function is therefore not a direct readout of coding sequence but an integrated property shaped by the channelosome, transcriptional and epigenetic control, post-translational modifi…
