- Beyond 5mC: 5hmC in the aging epigenome. [Review]Exp Gerontol. 2026 Oct 31; :113374. [Online ahead of print]EG
- Quantifying biological aging and predicting age-related functional decline are increasingly important for reducing the health and socioeconomic burden of population aging. DNA methylation is one of the most extensively studied epigenetic features of aging and underlies epigenetic clocks, promising quantitative biomarkers of biological age. However, the molecular processes driving age-associated D…

- Proteostasis network dysregulation in aging skeletal muscle: Mechanisms and therapeutic targets in sarcopenia and muscle wasting. [Review]Exp Gerontol. 2026 Oct 31; :113373. [Online ahead of print]EG
- Aging is a universal biological process signified by a time-dependent decline in physiological activity, driven by molecular and cellular damage, leading to greater susceptibility to diseases and fatal outcomes. Impaired proteostasis is a key aspect of cellular aging in which the cells become less efficient at folding, repairing, and recycling proteins, consequently inducing accumulation of damag…

- Genomic structural equation modeling elucidates the shared genetic architecture of vascular ageing. [Journal Article]Exp Gerontol. 2026 Oct 30; :113370. [Online ahead of print]EG
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the first multivariate genomic characterization of vascular ageing using Genomic SEM, uncovering loci newly implicated in vascular ageing, convergent putative causal genes, and cellular substrates that link vascular biology to systemic ageing and may inform precision prevention of age-related vascular disorders.

- Mitochondrial acquisition after the Asgard revolution: Reconstructing eukaryogenesis with insights for mitochondrial transplantation. [Review]Exp Gerontol. 2026 Oct 29; 226:113372. [Online ahead of print]EG
- Mitochondria arose from an alphaproteobacterial endosymbiont that became integrated within an archaeal host during eukaryogenesis. The discovery of Asgard archaea has clarified host ancestry and supports reconstructions in which aspects of cytoskeletal and membrane complexity preceded mitochondrial acquisition. Organellogenesis involved genome reduction, gene transfer, protein import, metabolic c…

- Fecal microbiota transplantation and its role in aging of rats: Behavioral and pathological evidence. [Journal Article]Exp Gerontol. 2026 Oct 28; 226:113371. [Online ahead of print]EG
- Aging is associated with progressive oxidative stress, chronic inflammation and functional deterioration across multiple organs. Increasing evidence suggests that the gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in regulating aging through the gut-brain axis and systemic immune interactions. The present study investigated the therapeutic potential of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in a D-galactose…

- Concordance between changes in epigenetic clocks and changes in clinical outcomes in geroscience intervention trials: A systematic review. [Review]Exp Gerontol. 2026 Oct 24; 226:113367. [Online ahead of print]EG
- CONCLUSIONS: Concordance between epigenetic-clock and clinical-outcome changes was inconsistent, with favorable signals concentrated mainly in selected intermediate outcomes. Epigenetic clocks should currently be considered exploratory or adjunctive biomarkers of intervention response rather than validated clinical surrogate endpoints.

- Association of insulin resistance surrogate indices with multimorbidity among postmenopausal women: cross-sectional and longitudinal evidence from NHANES and CHARLS with machine learning-based evaluation. [Journal Article]Exp Gerontol. 2026 Oct 24; 226:113368. [Online ahead of print]EG
- CONCLUSIONS: Multiple IR surrogate indices were associated with multimorbidity among postmenopausal women, with eGDR showing the most consistent inverse association across analyses. These indices may assist population-level risk stratification, although their clinical utility requires further external validation.

- Acute sucrose availability before and during high-intensity interval exercise modifies recovery-phase myonectin responses in postmenopausal women with obesity: A randomized crossover trial. [Journal Article]Exp Gerontol. 2026 Oct 24; 226:113369. [Online ahead of print]EG
- CONCLUSIONS: Under a common HIIT stimulus, the sucrose condition was associated with a greater recovery-phase increase in circulating myonectin and distinct metabolic responses compared with the non-caloric control condition. Without non-exercise conditions or another carbohydrate comparator, these findings cannot establish an effect independent of exercise, an exercise × sucrose interaction, or specificity to sucrose. Circulating measurements also do not establish altered myonectin production or secretion.

- Inflammaging, a state of chronic low-grade inflammation, is a key contributor to biological aging and diabetes. Traditional inflammatory indices within the interplay between inflammation and epigenetic aging remain insufficiently explored. In addition, novel platelet-based inflammatory indices may perform better than traditional inflammatory indices. This study was a cross-sectional study with su…

- Time-to-event models are central to aging research, quantifying both whether and when an event occurs. However, guidance on selecting among traditional statistical and machine learning (ML) methods for prediction modeling remains limited, particularly for epidemiologic aging cohorts with wide assessment intervals. Mobility limitation, as a clinically important aging outcome with such complexities…

- CONCLUSIONS: Higher national income was associated with attenuation of the DOA-CVD relationship in levels models. The composite and component-specific analyses provide complementary perspectives on this pattern, with clearer evidence for diabetes and population ageing. These findings describe an income-dependent population-level association whose interpretation remains sensitive to temporal specification.
