- Acquired Corneal Subepithelial Hypertrophy: First Ultrastructural Characterization by Transmission Electron Microscopy. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]EC
- Acquired corneal subepithelial hypertrophy (ACSH) is a rare corneal condition whose ultrastructural features have not previously been characterized. We report the first detailed ultrastructural analysis of ACSH in a 57-year-old man with a history of penetrating keratoplasty for corneal trauma followed by Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty who presented with progressive visual d…

- Beyond Eye Rubbing: Mechanical Ocular Stimulation Is Highly Prevalent in Keratoconus. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]EC
- CONCLUSIONS: The concept of mechanical ocular stimulation provides a more comprehensive framework than eye rubbing for characterizing pressure-related behaviors in patients with keratoconus. Broader assessment of current and past behaviors may improve clinical assessment and patient counseling.

- Impact of Scleral Lens Wear on Intraocular Pressure, Retinal Structure, and Choroidal Vascularity. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]EC
- CONCLUSIONS: Four hours of SL wear was not associated with statistically significant changes in IOP, RNFL, GCC, SFCT, or CVI in habitual SL wearers with keratoconus.

- Bilateral Vortex Keratopathy in a Patient Receiving Long-Term Ribociclib Therapy. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]EC
- We report a case of bilateral vortex keratopathy associated with long-term ribociclib therapy in a 67-year-old woman with metastatic breast cancer. The corneal deposits were identified during routine ophthalmic examination after 4 years of continuous treatment. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy revealed bilateral whorl-like epithelial deposits with a subtle morphological appearance compared with classic am…

- Bibliometric Factors and Sentiment as Predictors of Lamellar Keratoplasty Trends in the United States. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]EC
- CONCLUSIONS: DSAEK seems to be predominantly a US-first phenomenon with rapid adoption and surgeries outpacing the rate of global publications. DMEK seems to be predominantly a European-first technique with a more diverse origin of publications which outpaced the relatively slower surgical rate in the United States.

- The Relationship Between Accommodative Function and Myopia Progression in Children Wearing Orthokeratology Lenses. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Sep 28. [Online ahead of print]EC
- CONCLUSIONS: Baseline AMP and AF may be used as reference indicators for assessing the risk of myopia progression. Baseline binocular accommodative parameters demonstrated no significant association with subsequent axial elongation rate.

- Functional Improvement with Red-Tinted Contact Lens in Pediatric Achromatopsia: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Oct 01; 52(10):436-439.EC
- Achromatopsia is a rare inherited cone dysfunction characterized by reduced visual acuity, photophobia, nystagmus, impaired color discrimination, and decreased contrast sensitivity (CS). This case report describes the clinical and patient-reported outcomes of red-tinted contact lens use in a child with achromatopsia. Baseline and postlens assessments included cycloplegic refraction, visual acuity…

- Factors Influencing Refractive Severity and Visual Improvement in Pediatric Unilateral High Myopia With Myelinated Retinal Nerve Fibers. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Oct 01; 52(10):410-416.EC
- CONCLUSIONS: Extensive MRNF involvement predicted more severe myopia and poorer recovery. Early amblyopia therapy, particularly with RGP lenses, achieved significant visual benefits.

- Long-Term Endothelial Cell Loss After Ocular Chemical Injuries in Eyes with Resolved Corneal Edema: A Retrospective Paired-Eye Study. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Aug 25. [Online ahead of print]EC
- CONCLUSIONS: Ocular chemical injuries can cause substantial, persistent corneal endothelial cell loss, even after clinical resolution of corneal edema. Long-term endothelial monitoring and careful surgical planning are recommended in this population.

- Clinical Outcomes of a Novel Customized Multifocal Corneo-Scleral Contact Lens With Spherical Aberration Control. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Oct 01; 52(10):425-431.EC
- CONCLUSIONS: The customized multifocal corneo-scleral CLs with SA control evaluated can provide good distance and intermediate visual performance in presbyopic patients, but limited near visual performance and symptom tolerance. The sign of induced SA and pupil size seem to influence visual outcomes, supporting the value of individualized optical design. Further controlled studies with larger samples and extended follow-up are warranted.

- Herpes Simplex Necrotizing Stromal Keratitis After Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery With Arcuate Keratotomies: A Case Report. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Aug 25. [Online ahead of print]EC
- We report on a case of HSV-1 necrotizing stromal keratitis arising from femtosecond laser arcuate keratotomy wounds after femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) in a patient without known prior ocular herpes. An 80-year-old woman underwent uncomplicated FLACS with paired arcuate keratotomies and was discharged on topical dexamethasone and ofloxacin. Fifteen days later, examination sh…

- Complications of Poorly Fitted Scleral Lenses and Approaches to Continued Wear. [Case Reports]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Oct 01; 52(10):432-435.EC
- Scleral lenses (SLs) are increasingly considered a mainstream option for optical correction in patients with corneal irregularity and for protection of the ocular surface in patients with ocular surface disease. However, there can be complications with SL if the fit and disease is not regularly monitored. This case series reviews complications from poorly fitted SLs. Changes in SL design may allo…

- A Case of Adult-onset Presumed Congenital Syphilitic Keratitis: A Multidisciplinary Management Approach. [Journal Article]Eye Contact Lens. 2026 Aug 24. [Online ahead of print]EC
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the diagnostic and therapeutic complexity of adult-onset presumed congenital syphilitic interstitial keratitis. In cases where a definitive diagnosis cannot be confirmed, close collaboration among infectious disease, ophthalmology, and optometry is needed to navigate treatment decisions, manage refractory inflammation, and guide visual rehabilitation. This case demonstrates that specialty contact lens fitting and sustained interdisciplinary care are essential in restoring functional vision.
