  • [Translated article] Complications associated with parenteral nutrition in hospitalized patients. [Journal Article]
Farm Hosp. 2026 Oct 26. [Online ahead of print]Fortes González MS, Menor Fernández EM, … Martínez López de Castro NFH
  • CONCLUSIONS: Although complications associated with parenteral nutrition occur, the rate of serious complications, such as infections, is low. While most patients experienced at least one complication, metabolic events were the most common, and they are generally easy to detect and manage. The incidence of mechanical complications, mainly phlebitis and catheter occlusions, was moderate.
  • Pharmacogenetics in pediatric oncology: Current evidence and challenges for clinical implementation. [Review]
    Farm Hosp. 2026 Oct 22. [Online ahead of print]Rodríguez-España E, Fernández-Peña A, … Bernardez BFH
  • CONCLUSIONS: Pharmacogenetics represents a promising tool for optimizing the efficacy and safety of antineoplastic treatment in children. However, its implementation in clinical practice will require generating pediatric-specific evidence and incorporating genetic data alongside dynamic factors such as ontogeny and phenoconversion into multidisciplinary precision medicine frameworks, within which the hospital pharmacist has a meaningful role to play.
  • [Translated article] Determinants of adherence to calcium/vitamin D supplements in a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
    Farm Hosp. 2026 Oct 21. [Online ahead of print]Gómez-Costas D, de Lorenzo-Pinto A, … Sanjurjo-Sáez MFH
  • CONCLUSIONS: Strict adherence to calcium/vitamin D is low, and self-reporting substantially overestimates actual compliance. Beyond classical patient-level factors, formulation tolerability and acceptability emerge as independent, potentially modifiable determinants of adherence. A simple screening strategy based on patient overall rating, adverse reactions and formulation organoleptic profile could guide early, pragmatic interventions such as adherence support and timely formulation switching.
  • [Translated article] The "Trojan horse" against antimicrobial resistance: Siderophore conjugates and public health. [Review]
Farm Hosp. 2026 Oct 08. [Online ahead of print]Herrera-Callo AD, Chávez-Morán MRFH
  • CONCLUSIONS: Siderophore conjugates offer a targeted therapeutic approach against multidrug-resistant pathogens by exploiting the bacteria's own iron-uptake systems. The available evidence ranges from clinical results with cefiderocol to preclinical developments with other platforms. Their application, however, faces challenges that span chemical optimization, manufacturing, regulation, and access in clinical settings.
