- Associations of food outlet exposure near secondary schools with food outlet use and unhealthy food intake during school time in England. [Journal Article]Health Place. 2026 Oct 28; 102:103752. [Online ahead of print]HP
- CONCLUSIONS: Greater supermarket exposure near schools was associated with a higher probability of food outlet use during school time, but not with a higher likelihood of a high-HFSS eating occasion. Takeaway-focused planning policies do not fully address the range of outlets used by older adolescents for school-time food purchasing, particularly supermarkets.

- Global research on urban density and health: A bibliometric analysis of trends, themes, and research priorities. [Journal Article]Health Place. 2026 Oct 24; 102:103757. [Online ahead of print]HP
- Urban density is a central concern in urban design and public health, yet evidence on its relationships with health is dispersed across disciplines. This study used bibliometric methods to map the global research landscape on urban density and health, and to identify publication trends, themes, key contributors, and research priorities. A search of the Web of Science Core Collection in May 2025 c…

- Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) diseases are shaped by place-based social and environmental conditions, yet the dynamic mechanisms linking structural inequities, neighborhood environments, and healthcare systems remain insufficiently understood. This study employed a participatory system dynamics approach, using Group Model Building (GMB), to examine how spatial, social, and institutional p…

- Therapeutic cultural environments: An indigenous epistemological expansion of the therapeutic landscapes concept. [Journal Article]Health Place. 2026 Oct 21; 102:103758. [Online ahead of print]HP
- CONCLUSIONS: The therapeutic landscapes concept requires not merely diversification but epistemological expansion; the TCE framework offers a theoretically grounded path toward a more inclusive, epistemologically extended landscape-health paradigm.

- Clustering of takeaway outlets around London schools: A geospatial analysis. [Journal Article]Health Place. 2026 Oct 20; 102:103753. [Online ahead of print]HP
- CONCLUSIONS: Findings support the implementation of takeaway management zones in London as outlined in the NPPF, set at 400m, or a 10-min walk from schools. However, variation across boroughs suggests local authorities may need to adjust the size or design of these zones. In the most deprived areas and central London, school-only measures may be insufficient, requiring complementary planning policies.

- Collaborating on creating healthy living environments: a scoping review of the organization of healthy placemaking. [Review]Health Place. 2026 Oct 17; 102:103751. [Online ahead of print]HP
- Healthy placemaking (HPM) has recently emerged as a new subtype in the placemaking literature. While there is increasing attention for HPM, there is currently no clear understanding of how HPM is organized. This scoping review provides an overview of HPM in terms of the actors involved, the approaches to collaboration, the goals of HPM initiatives, and the factors influencing the organization of …

- Longitudinal associations between gentrification and food environments of original residents in the United States. [Journal Article]Health Place. 2026 Oct 08; 102:103749. [Online ahead of print]HP
- CONCLUSIONS: Contrary to claims that gentrification improves food access for original residents, gentrification was not consistently associated with healthfulness of food environments for original residents in a nationally representative sample. Mixed findings across periods highlight the need to explore additional factors, including age and economic context.

- Exploring the link between eviction and birth outcomes in the United States: A scoping review. [Review]Health Place. 2026 Oct 08; 102:103748. [Online ahead of print]HP
- Eviction affects millions of households in the United States and is an increasingly recognized social determinant of health. Pregnant women may be particularly vulnerable, as housing instability during pregnancy can contribute to adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes. However, this association has not been systematically synthesized. This scoping review aims to address this gap by evaluating ex…

- Third place visiting among mid-to-older adults: a cross-classified multilevel analysis. [Journal Article]Health Place. 2026 Oct 07; 102:103740. [Online ahead of print]HP
- CONCLUSIONS: Policy initiatives should consider the accessibility of walkable places. In particular, mental health may act as a more significant barrier to access than geographic distance. Access to community resources, such as libraries and community centres, may be particularly important for mid-to-older adults experiencing loneliness. Interventions should aim to promote social participation in a range of accessible third places.

- Housing is a fundamental social determinant of health and wellbeing for migrant and refugee populations and serves as a critical pathway through which health disparities emerge and persist over time. However, evidence on how housing disparities shape health outcomes among newly arrived migrants and refugees remains limited, particularly evidence attentive to how these experiences vary by visa and…

- Diarrheal disease remains strongly patterned by environmental and social inequalities in place-based riverine settings, where daily interaction with contaminated water environments shapes exposure risk. Guided by eco-social theory, this study examines how environmental and social infrastructures jointly structure diarrheal vulnerability in riverine communities of Jambi Province, Indonesia. A cros…

- Data collection on housing conditions in ageing cohort studies: a meta-research study. [Journal Article]Health Place. 2026 Sep 26; 102:103741. [Online ahead of print]HP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the lack of comprehensive housing measures in ageing cohort studies in Australia and New Zealand, limiting our understanding of how housing conditions impact health and well-being of older adults. It is therefore crucial to integrate standardized and comprehensive housing measures into cohort studies, particularly in the context of population ageing and climate change. The absence of cohort studies from other countries in Oceania also highlights a significant data equity issue.
