Health-promoting behaviours (HPBs) in migrants are essential to protect their overall well-being. However, empirical evidence is lacking regarding the factors influencing HPBs in registered Myanmar migrants in Thailand. This study aimed to examine direct and indirect paths of relationships among acculturation, perceived stress, behaviour-specific cognitions and affects, and HPBs in registered Myanmar migrants in Bangkok. A cross-sectional study was conducted with multistage random sampling of 400 Myanmar migrants residing in Bangkok. The settings were lodging in factories where the migrants reside and work in Bangkok. Structured questionnaires included the East Asian Acculturation Measure (EAAM), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), the Benefit Assessment Scale (BES), Barrier Assessment Scale (BAS), Self-Rated Abilities for Health Practices Scale (SRAHP), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and Health-Promoting Behaviours Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II). The data were analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM). Perceived stress had significant indirect effects on HPBs through perceived benefits, self-efficacy, and social support. Perceived benefits, self-efficacy, and social support had a significantly strong and positive direct effect on HPBs. Effective nursing intervention should be developed to reduce stress and promote perceived benefits, self-efficacy, and social support, leading to improved HPBs in registered migrants in Myanmar.

Heavy drinking is a core staple in the culture of college football tailgating. In response to the drinking culture of tailgates, scholars recommend that collegiate recovery programs (CRPs) implement innovative "sober tailgate" programming; however, little is known regarding how many colleges have sober tailgate programs, and how such programs are logistically implemented. As such, the purpose of this study was to explore these issues and contribute to the knowledge base on this topic within a socio-ecological perspective. In the fall semester of 2023, the leaders of CRPs at colleges with a football program and an advertised sober tailgate program were invited to complete an online questionnaire about their tailgate. From a total of 667 colleges with a football program, there were only 14 (2%) that had a CRP that advertised sober tailgate programming. From those, 7 (response rate = 50%) CRP leaders completed the study's questionnaire. CRP leaders reported that a variety of on-campus and off-campus groups (e.g., campus administration, treatment facilities, parents of students) help to fund and support sober tailgate programming. Even with common barriers to program implementation, most CRP leaders perceived sober tailgating as successful, well-attended, and led to a few attendees participating in future campus recovery meetings. Health promotion practitioners should consider implementing sober tailgates, and may want to use this study's findings for planning purposes.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated demand for public health professionals trained in infodemiology, or the science of using health-related information, particularly in digital environments, to inform public health decision-making. To build workforce capacity, The Public Good Projects and the de Beaumont Foundation developed the Infodemiology Training Program (ITP), an asynchronous, online course designed for professionals in U.S. state and local health departments. This process evaluation describes the development, pilot testing, and implementation of the ITP, along with early indicators of its reach, relevance, and use in practice. Mixed methods were used to assess program engagement and outcomes, including platform metrics (n = 3,319 registrants), surveys (n = 61), and interviews (n = 4). Quantitative data showed high engagement in Module 1 (49.5% completion), declining across subsequent modules. More than half of survey respondents (60.0%) reported applying the training in their work, and 92.5% found it relevant to their roles. Qualitative findings indicated participants valued the program's flexibility, applicability, and emphasis on misinformation response. Barriers to completion included time constraints and misalignment with job responsibilities. Findings suggest that while the ITP filled an important training gap, shorter segments and applied learning tools may support future uptake. The ITP represents an early step toward formalizing infodemiology practice in the U.S. public health workforce, with future directions focused on integration into academic programs and public health systems.

The physical literacy for communities (PL4C) project aimed to promote physical literacy using a participatory community mobilization approach; organizing multi-sectoral community-led tables that developed and promoted physical literacy initiatives. As part of a scale-up across Canada, we set out to design an evaluation protocol to assess the effectiveness of the PL4C intervention that was aligned with table processes and activities. We conducted interviews with members of two original community tables that would then serve as exemplar communities for the scale-up evaluation with the goal of understanding: (1) how the existing PL4C intervention functioned; and (2) the promotion of physical literacy in these communities. Through qualitative interviews with 13 (11 women) existing PL4C table members, we identified three broad categories: working together, sustainability, and promoting physical literacy in different settings. Participants identified several areas important for evaluation of PL4C scale-up and implementation, including unpacking partnership operations and capacity building, supporting and understanding the sustainability of multi-sectoral action, and measuring the effectiveness of physical literacy program delivery. We used findings from these interviews to design an evaluation of the PL4C intervention that included milestone tracking, interviews and surveys with table members and community leaders, and direct measures of physical literacy alongside school and community-based physical literacy interventions being delivered in exemplar communities.

Immunization is a key public health strategy for preventing vaccine-preventable diseases; however, vaccine hesitancy remains a persistent challenge. This study determined the level of vaccine hesitancy among mothers of non- and under-immunized children aged 0-24 months in a third-class municipality in Occidental Mindoro, Philippines. A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro, from February to July 2020. A total of 299 mothers participated. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing vaccine hesitancy across the domains of confidence and trust, complacency, and perceived risk. Descriptive statistics summarized participant characteristics and hesitancy levels, while nonparametric tests examined associations between sociodemographic factors and vaccine hesitancy domains at a significance level of p < .05. Results showed that work status was significantly associated with perceived confidence and trust (U = 5408.50, p = .03) and perceived complacency and risk (U = 5122.00, p < .01), with stay-at-home mothers reporting higher ranks in both domains. Marital status was significantly associated with perceived confidence and trust, H(3) = 25.07, p < .01. Geographic location, H(2) = 24.61, p < .01, prenatal visit history, H(2) = 17.20, p < .01, and health information sources were also significantly associated with perceived confidence and trust, H(5) = 19.04, p < .01, and perceived complacency and risk, H(5) = 32.50, p < .01. These findings highlight the importance of targeted health communication strategies that address determinants of vaccine hesitancy. Engaging health care providers and leveraging trusted information sources may strengthen vaccine confidence and improve routine childhood immunization uptake.

This article examines the use of photovoice as an engaging method in mental health promotion to focus on environmental and structural factors affecting mental health and well-being. The approach aligns with the socioecological model, which considers multiple levels of influence on mental health, including individual, interpersonal, community, and societal factors. The photovoice method empowers participants to capture and communicate their experiences and perspectives on mental health to others through photography. The participatory nature of the method may shift the focus from individual-level factors to broader contextual influences. In this article, examples of photovoice applied in mental health promotion are presented through three case studies: 1) photovoice as a way to engage people in the Act-Belong-Commit campaign in Western Australia; 2) photovoice in nursing education focusing on community assets for mental health in Spain; and 3) photovoice focusing on students' perspectives on mental health-promoting resources in a university setting in Denmark. The examples show that photovoice can be used in various settings, empowering participants and contributing to the development and implementation of mental health promotion initiatives, capacity building, and research projects. The article discusses implications of using the photovoice methodology in examining mental health and informing mental health promotion practices and research.

In rural Tribal communities, timely detection of infectious diseases remains a significant public health challenge. The Wastewater Monitoring for Wellness Project, a collaboration between a Tribal health department, Tribal college, in-state university and the state health department, began a community-driven wastewater surveillance pilot study on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation to detect pathogens linked to cancer (i.e., Helicobacter pylori and human papillomavirus). Using a Community-Based Participatory Research approach, the project developed a community response plan, educational materials, and a data dashboard to translate wastewater findings into public health action. The community response plan outlined roles, communication strategies, and response protocols to inform health care interventions and raise community awareness. This work addresses unmet surveillance of infectious cancers, promotes Tribal data sovereignty, and supports ethical surveillance practices. The project demonstrates that wastewater surveillance, when grounded in local partnerships with community-centered priorities and with respect for Tribal data sovereignty, can be an effective tool for early disease detection and prevention in Tribal public health systems.

Fentanyl is a highly potent and dangerous synthetic opioid pervasively contributing to the opioid overdose epidemic in the U.S. Illicitly sold opioids with fentanyl are dangerous as they are uncontrolled and can lead to rapid deterioration of health, especially among growing adolescents. Within Los Angeles County, fentanyl-related deaths tied to opioid overdoses have led to a sharp increase in mortality rates. The purpose of this pre-post design study was to evaluate the effectiveness of two harm reduction videos developed by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. This pilot study measured the changes in the level of knowledge and attitudes that contribute to substance use behaviors among high school students (N=76). The participants included high school students recruited from two local schools. Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests were used to measure changes in attitude and level of knowledge pre-and post-test using the statistical software SPSS 29.0. Overall, the results indicate a statistically significant improvement in the level of knowledge and change in attitudes post-test and at the 3-month follow-up. The retention of overdose knowledge information did not change significantly between post-test and the 3-month follow-up, potentially due to the low sample size. The study has several implications for public health education and substance use prevention practitioners, including the importance of effective community collaborations, improved access to harm reduction resources, and large-scale adoption of feasible educational interventions to reverse the trajectory of opioid overdoses among adolescents.

Civic health equity is the principle that all people deserve a fair and just opportunity to participate in their communities and to have a voice in the systems that shape their lives. Yet despite its importance to population health, civic engagement remains inconsistently addressed in health professions education. Inequities in civic participation contribute to unequal political representation and policy responsiveness, disproportionately affecting historically marginalized communities, and limit the ability of future health professionals to engage with the structural and policy drivers of health. This paper describes the development and implementation of a civic health equity metric within the Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC), an international, student-led, faculty-supported initiative that evaluates how health professional schools integrate planetary health and social accountability into educational practice. First introduced in the 2026 PHRC assessment cycle, the metric was developed through iterative leadership discussions informed by existing frameworks. It assesses whether health professional curricula prepare students to understand civic participation and advocacy as mechanisms for addressing environmental and structural determinants of health. The metric is part of the PHRC curriculum domain and uses a standardized scoring system ranging from 0 to 3 points, with required qualitative justification from participating institutions. To promote feasibility and broad adoption, it is explicitly nonpartisan and educational in nature, aligning with 501(c)(3) requirements. By embedding civic health equity within an established assessment framework, this metric provides educators with a practical tool to identify curricular gaps, support equitable access to civic learning, and strengthen health promotion-oriented training.

As businesses continue to adapt post-COVID-19 pandemic, there is increased interest among employers in their employees' mental health and work-life balance. However, few studies have looked at how the pandemic may have impacted employer perceptions of workplace health promotion (WHP), despite its role in addressing mental health and work-life balance. Small low-wage businesses have unique characteristics, including thin profit margins, limited financial reserves, and few employees, so the impact of the pandemic hit them particularly hard. Using a framework guided by social marketing principles, 25 small-business employers from across the United States were interviewed. Questions included what they thought was most needed in post-pandemic WHP, how the pandemic changed WHP, how comfortable they would be providing support to their employees around physical health, mental health, and work-life balance, and what avenues they would use to promote those benefits and resources. Interviews were coded and analyzed via thematic analysis. Small low-wage business employers value the importance of WHP programs and recognize how the pandemic highlighted the need to support employee mental health. These employers are interested in providing support in the domains of mental health, physical health, and work-life balance; they would use similar avenues to promote resources in these domains; and they agree that the source of these supports should be trustworthy. Small-business employers now find WHP programs incomplete if they do not support employee mental health; health promotion practitioners should collaborate with employers to identify resources suitable for small businesses and determine how best to integrate them into existing offerings.

Prenatal education programs are a key component of maternal and newborn health promotion. Although the use of digital platforms for prenatal education increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, evidence for their effectiveness remains limited. In addition, conventional programs often omit content addressing adverse pregnancy outcomes due to concerns about increasing maternal anxiety or worry. This quasi-experimental study aimed to (1) evaluate participants' satisfaction and perceived acquisition of knowledge and health habits following a novel online prenatal education program delivered via Facebook, and (2) assess the impact of a novel session on managing complications during pregnancy and childbirth-preterm birth, newborn adaptation difficulties, and stillbirth-on participants' levels of pregnancy-related anxiety and worry. Participants completed the State Anxiety Inventory and Cambridge Worry Scale (CWS) before and after the session on complications (N = 162), and the modified EDUMA2 questionnaire at the program's conclusion (N = 93). High satisfaction (mean 9.01/10), improved self-rated knowledge and health habits, and high rates of recommendation were found. Post intervention, statistically significant reductions were observed in worry scores (CWS), particularly regarding fetal health, childbirth, and miscarriage, with no significant increase in anxiety levels (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory [STAI-S]). The online modality did not fully meet the social interaction needs of pregnant women and appeared to limit the participation of women's partners and migrant women. Online prenatal education can effectively promote maternal health literacy and may effectively address sensitive topics such as pregnancy and childbirth complications. Future programs should integrate hybrid formats and strategies to reduce digital access barriers, especially among vulnerable populations.
