- Clinical Outcomes of Patients Ineligible for Arteriovenous Vascular Access: A Retrospective Cohort Analysis. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Sep 06. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: Surgical vascular access ineligibility defines a high-risk clinical state whose implications differ by kidney replacement therapy status. Earlier identification, structured modality assessment, and timely palliative integration may better align care with prognosis, physiology, and patient goals.

- Development and Validation of a Risk Prediction Model for Depression in Elderly Chinese Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis: A Multicenter Study. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Aug 31. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: The high prevalence of depressive symptoms in this population is linked to specific risk factors. The nomogram provides valuable support for identification of high-risk patients in clinical practice.

- Longitudinal Changes in Acid-Base Parameters From Dialysis Initiation to Death in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Jul 24. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a comprehensive longitudinal evaluation of acid-base parameters from dialysis initiation to death. Observed temporal patterns, particularly in patients with unexpected death, suggest distinct terminal metabolic trajectories. These findings warrant further investigation in larger cohorts, potentially supported by artificial intelligence-based analyses.

- Montelukast Versus Gabapentin for Uremic Pruritus in Twice-Weekly Hemodialysis Patients: A 52-Week Prospective Non-Randomized Open-Label Comparative Study. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Jul 24. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: Montelukast provided sustained clinically meaningful improvement in uremic pruritus with substantially fewer treatment-related adverse events and superior tolerability than gabapentin. Although gabapentin achieved slightly greater reductions in pruritus severity at selected time points, these differences did not exceed the predefined minimum clinically important difference of 1.0 VAS point. Montelukast represents a practical and well-tolerated therapeutic option for patients receiving twice-weekly hemodialysis, particularly in resource-limited settings.

- Gentamicin Lock Therapy and Duration-Dependent Catheter-Related Bloodstream Infection Risk in Hemodialysis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Gentamicin-heparin lock effectively reduced CRBSI incidence. Stratified analysis suggested attenuation of duration-dependent risk, though the interaction did not reach significance (p = 0.061). Sustained clinical efficacy despite high resistance, alongside a favorable preliminary hearing safety profile, suggests its clinical utility while warranting careful stewardship and prospective study.

- Roxadustat Versus ESA Therapy for Sustained Hemoglobin Response in ESA-Hyporesponsive Hemodialysis Patients. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Jul 14. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: In ESA-hyporesponsive hemodialysis patients, roxadustat was associated with higher adjusted odds of sustained Hb ≥ 10 g/dL achievement but did not clearly reduce month-to-month Hb variability over 6 months. These retrospective findings support sustained target achievement as a clinically relevant response metric and warrant prospective validation.

- Efficacy of a Traffic Light Diary in Volume Management for Patients Undergoing Maintenance Hemodialysis: A Randomized Controlled Study. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Jul 14. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of fluid management based on a traffic light diary, which combines self-monitoring feedback with professional health education, is of significant importance for improving patients' knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding fluid management, enhancing fluid management efficacy, stabilizing blood pressure levels, and reducing the incidence of acute intradialytic complications.

- Actor and Partner Effects of Dyadic Coping on Stress Among Hemodialysis Patients and Spouses. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Jul 09. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings confirm the interdependent nature of coping within end-stage kidney disease dyads. Although spouses shoulder a greater share of the coping burden, their efforts effectively alleviate patient distress. Clinical interventions should move from patient-centered to couple-centered approaches that promote shared coping strategies, strengthen resilience, and reduce the risk of caregiver burnout.

- The Predictive Value of Platelet-to-Monocyte Ratio for Distal Arteriovenous Fistula Failure: A Retrospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Jul 08. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: A high preoperative platelet-to-monocyte ratio and low absolute monocyte count are associated with AV fistula maturation failure. While the platelet-to-monocyte ratio is not a strong independent predictor, it serves as an auxiliary biomarker reflecting the balance between thrombotic activity and vascular remodeling.

- The Effect of Education Using the Teach-Back Method on Symptoms of Depression in Hemodialysis Patients. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Jul 08. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that Teach-Back education may reduce depression levels in hemodialysis patients. However, given the small sample size and relatively short follow-up period, larger studies with longer follow-up are needed to confirm these findings.

- Determinants of 90-Day Infection Risk After Tunneled Dialysis Catheter Placement: Patient, Device, and Procedural Factors in a Large Real-World Dataset. [Journal Article]Hemodial Int. 2026 Jul 07. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: Infection risk after tunneled hemodialysis catheter insertion was most consistently associated with insertion context, catheter history, calendar period, and demographics. Device-related findings were smaller and varied by model specification, with brand-level differences not fully explained by broad design categories. Future studies should incorporate granular device descriptors and facility-level context to clarify which design choices translate into meaningful differences in infection risk.

- CONCLUSIONS: In this multicenter pre-post evaluation, implementation of Recova was associated with modest improvements in bioimpedance spectroscopy-derived volume metrics and fluid-related symptoms, while recovery time did not change significantly. Controlled studies are needed to determine effectiveness and to identify which patients may benefit.
