- Epidemiological and sociodemographic profile of Mpox in Brazilian Amazon: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Mpox cases in Pará were concentrated in the state capital, associated with intimate sexual contact networks among young adults, and characterized by high coinfection frequencies with HIV and syphilis.

- Serum hepcidin as a host-derived biomarker of disease severity and risk stratification in tuberculosis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Serum hepcidin was associated with disease severity in tuberculosis but was not associated with 3-month mortality. Combined biomarker models showed promising prognostic performance, warranting further validation in larger multicentre studies.

- Outcomes of non-tuberculous mycobacterial infection of the bone, joint and soft tissue: a seven-year multicentre retrospective study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This first multicentre Australasian cohort demonstrates substantial species-specific variation in outcomes of EPNTM osteoarticular and soft-tissue infections. This study highlights the need for species-specific management pathways and prospective studies.

- From early recognition to precision medicine: advances in the diagnosis and management of adult sepsis and septic shock-a narrative review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Most of the emerging diagnostic, computational, and precision approaches reviewed here have not yet established a routine role in sepsis care. Established evidence-based management therefore remains the clinical foundation, while newer strategies should be evaluated prospectively for their ability to close the information-to-action and decision-to-outcome gaps.

- Clinical significance of human rhino-/enterovirus co-detection in pediatric Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Human rhino-/enterovirus co-detection may represent incidental viral detection rather than clinically relevant co-infection in children with M. pneumoniae infection, supporting cautious interpretation of multiplex PCR results.

- Cardiac injury in children with severe hand, foot and mouth disease: risk factors and clinical outcomes. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Cardiac injury in pediatric patients with severe HFMD is associated with adverse clinical outcomes, underscoring the need for early risk stratification and comprehensive cardiac assessment.

- Culture results of heart valves resected from patients with active Enterococcus faecalis infective endocarditis undergoing heart valve surgery: insights into duration of antibiotic treatment required to achieve valve sterilisation. [Journal Article]Infection. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: Patients with EFIE who received valve surgery within 14 days of commencing antibiotic treatment had a very high valve culture positivity rate and this rate continued at moderate levels for those who received surgery after 14 days. We observed no difference in valve culture positivity rates when ceftriaxone or gentamicin was used as the sole pre-surgery synergistic antibiotic. The valve samples that remained culture positive after prolonged antibiotic treatment may help explain the higher relapse rate of patients with EFIE who do not receive valve surgery when compared with patients with other causes of IE.

- Gut microbiota dysbiosis in patients with sepsis: a meta-analysis of microbial diversity and taxonomic abundance. [Review]Infection. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: Sepsis was associated with reduced gut microbial diversity and alterations in selected bacterial taxa, most consistently in comparisons with healthy/reference controls. Clinical heterogeneity and incomplete control of antibiotic exposure and illness severity limit attribution of these changes to sepsis itself. Prospective studies are needed to establish their prognostic and therapeutic relevance.

- Co-occurrence of viral respiratory pathogens: prevalence, seasonal distribution, and symptomatology in outpatients in Bavaria, Germany, from April 2025 - March 2026. [Journal Article]Infection. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: The frequency of multi-infections follows the seasonality of the corresponding viruses. Especially children under 5 years of age are affected by co-infections. Among the studied viruses, influenza A showed the lowest relative rate of co-detection, in line with its pronounced seasonality - a pattern that warrants further investigation.

- Healthcare pathways and outpatient management prior to community-acquired sepsis hospitalization in Germany, 2016-2019. [Journal Article]Infection. 2026 Oct 12. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: Most patients with CAS had healthcare contact in the week prior to hospitalization, predominantly in outpatient care. The frequent encounters shortly before admission and low rates of anti-infective prescription may suggest opportunities for earlier recognition and better risk stratification, e.g. by strengthening sepsis awareness and diagnostic strategies in outpatient settings.

- Retrospective two-centre study of human tularemia, Austria. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: We highlight the heterogeneous clinical presentation of tularemia patients in Austria. Further we demonstrate that timely diagnosis and a prompt implementation of an appropriate antimicrobial therapy may contribute to shorter treatment durations and a reduced need for surgical intervention.

- Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections in the Post-COVID era: recent advances from pathogenesis to clinical management. [Review]
- M.pneumoniae is a major cause of human respiratory infection whose pathogenicity relies on adhesion proteins, secreted virulence factors, and immune evasion mechanisms. This review contextualizes these strategies within the broader phylogeny of clinically relevant Mycoplasma species while addressing the diverse extrapulmonary manifestations of M. pneumoniae. Current challenges in managing M. pneu…

- Orf virus infection in a sheep owner: a case report and literature review. [Journal Article]
- Orf virus (ORFV) is a zoonotic parapoxvirus, that primarily affects sheep and goats worldwide. It can be transmitted to humans through direct skin contact with infected animals and typically leads to self-limiting nodules or blisters at the site of inoculation, which resolve spontaneously after approximately six weeks without specific antiviral treatment. Here, we present the case of a 56- year-o…

- Influenza vaccine effectiveness against hospitalization in children aged 6-72 months: a test-negative study in the Southern Italy, 2022-2026. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Influenza vaccination was associated with a reduced risk of influenza-associated hospitalization among children aged 6-72 months, with the strongest protection observed during the 2024-2025 season. These findings support continued efforts to improve pediatric influenza vaccination uptake.

- Hand hygiene infrastructure and point-of-care resource availability in public hospitals in Sierra Leone: a national multicentre cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This first national multicentre survey of hospital HH infrastructure found major systemic gaps, especially in bedside access to essential HH facilities. Despite ward-level ABHR availability, shortages of water, soap, towel, and limited POC access fell below standards. Strengthening HH in similar settings requires investment in basic infrastructure/supplies, strategic resource placement, audits, and behavioural reinforcement.
