- Integrating medical psychology into long-term trauma care for older adults. [Letter]Injury. 2026 Oct 24; :113844. [Online ahead of print]I
- Recent evidence demonstrates that severe injury in older adults is associated with prolonged risks of mortality and institutionalization, highlighting the importance of long-term functional outcomes such as ageing in place. While current trauma care models primarily emphasize physical recovery and frailty status, emerging research suggests that cognitive processing, psychological resilience, and …

- Province-wide assessment of emergency care capacity and skills in a rural provincial health system: A facility-based cross-sectional assessment in Battambang, Cambodia. [Journal Article]Injury. 2026 Oct 27; 57(12):113794. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: Emergency care capacity in Battambang Province was substantially limited, with the greatest deficiencies at CPA1 hospitals. Recurrent low-cost training and targeted strengthening of basic emergency care should be prioritized at lower-level facilities.

- A scoping review evaluating artificial intelligence applications across various injury prevention domains. [Review]Injury. 2026 Oct 27; 57(12):113816. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: ML-based prediction showed promise for risk stratification in self-harm, suicide, intimate partner violence, and recurrent victimization. Additionally, AI predicted fall risk and identified athletes at risk for future sports-related injuries while detecting modifiable risk factors, including workload, prior injury burden, and strength deficits. Although these findings suggest that AI and ML may have potential applications in supporting earlier risk identification, informing targeted prevention strategies, and facilitating more personalized approaches to injury prevention, the limited available evidence warrants careful interpretation.

- Enhanced wound healing potential of a carboxymethyl cellulose/gelatin-based hydrogel containing decellularized amniotic membrane and Matricaria chamomilla extract: A multifunctional composite dressing. [Journal Article]Injury. 2026 Oct 25; 57(12):113831. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: The CMC/GEL-Chamomilla-dAM hydrogel combines a dAM-containing extracellular matrix scaffold with chamomile-derived bioactive compounds, creating a favorable microenvironment for tissue repair. The addition of chamomile extract to the dAM-containing scaffold was associated with improved wound closure and tissue regeneration. While the present study design does not permit a definitive assessment of synergy between dAM and chamomile, these findings support the potential of this formulation as a multifunctional biomaterial platform for advanced wound healing applications.

- Union rate and time to union following platelet-rich plasma therapy in fracture nonunion: A systematic review and meta-analysis. [Journal Article]Injury. 2026 Oct 28; 57(12):113826. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: PRP was associated with higher union rates in the limited comparative evidence, although no statistically significant difference in time to union was demonstrated. Heterogeneity in PRP protocols, methodological limitations, and the small comparative evidence base limit the certainty of these findings. PRP may have a potential role as a biological adjunct in fracture nonunion management, but further well-designed randomized controlled trials are required before definitive clinical recommendations can be made.

- Comprehensive treatment approaches for traumatic tattoos: An integrative review. [Review]Injury. 2026 Oct 24; 57(12):113834. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: Best practice appears to combine prompt removal of foreign material in the acute phase with appropriate laser therapy for established traumatic tattoos. The overall evidence is low-level and heterogeneous, and prospective comparative studies with longer follow-up are required.

- Patterns of depression screening, referral, and behavioral health follow-up after orthopaedic trauma. [Journal Article]Injury. 2026 Oct 24; 57(12):113782. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: Significant gaps exist in the depression care cascade for orthopaedic trauma patients. Referral completion rates were approximately two-fold lower than non-trauma orthopaedic subspecialties, and referral non-completion was associated with significantly higher rates of infectious complications and unplanned healthcare utilization. Targeted, navigation-based interventions addressing structural barriers at the point of care are needed to close the gap between depression identification and treatment engagement in orthopaedic trauma.

- Pathologic hip fractures present complex challenges and are associated with higher postoperative complication rates and mortality compared with non-pathologic fractures. This study aimed to compare 30-day outcomes between pathologic and non-pathologic hip fracture patients and identify factors associated with 30-day mortality and postoperative complications among patients with pathologic hip frac…

- Video-assisted resident education is associated with improved ankle joint reduction: A prospective controlled study. [Journal Article]Injury. 2026 Oct 24; 57(12):113823. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: Implementation of video-assisted ankle fracture management education program was associated with improvements in overall ankle joint reduction quality. While the clinical significance of the improvements observed in ankle reduction remains yet to be established, orthopaedic surgery residency programs should consider incorporating video technique guides into their educational curricula.

- CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic severity at presentation, particularly Rutherford grade III and absence of collateral circulation on CTA, is associated with major limb complications in traumatic PAI, whereas ischemic time alone may be insufficient to predict outcomes.
