  • Association Between Serum Magnesium Status and Bronchial Asthma Severity: A Gender-Matched Retrospective Cohort Study. [Journal Article]
    J Asthma. 2026 Oct 21; :1-14. [Online ahead of print]Patel D, Tamakuwala G, Patel SJA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Hypomagnesaemia was strongly associated with greater asthma severity in this cohort, and the study hypothesis was supported in this sample. Because exposure and outcome were ascertained contemporaneously from retrospective records, these data cannot establish whether hypomagnesaemia contributes to severe asthma, arises as a consequence of severe disease or its treatment, or reflects a shared cause. The wide confidence intervals reflect sparse data in the extreme severity categories. These findings are hypothesis-generating and do not support a change in current practice; prospective studies with serial magnesium measurement and adjustment for treatment, renal, and nutritional confounders are required.
  • Planned biologic discontinuation in severe asthma: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Review]
    J Asthma. 2026 Oct 22; :1-15. [Online ahead of print]Srivali N, Giacomi FJA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Biologic discontinuation in severe asthma carries a moderate-certainty increased exacerbation risk. Because universal de-escalation criteria cannot yet be defined, decisions should be individualized, guided by eosinophil count, exacerbation history, remission duration, and biomarker trajectory, until prospective trial data become available.
  • Usability, educational engagement, and patient-reported outcomes in a mobile asthma intervention. [Journal Article]
    J Asthma. 2026 Oct 20; :1-15. [Online ahead of print]Zhang S, Li X, … Jariwala SPJA
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this urban, high-burden cohort, usability predicted early engagement but not clinical benefit. Baseline outcome status remained the strongest predictor of longitudinal outcomes. These findings suggest that digital asthma interventions may require targeted, content-specific engagement strategies beyond usability alone to improve outcomes.
  • Geographic patterns of asthma morbidity: a systematic review of Sand and dust storm (SDS) impacts in Asia. [Review]
    J Asthma. 2026 Oct 19; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]Gonehgar MR, Sharif Shoushtari M, … Assarehzadegan MAJA
  • CONCLUSIONS: SDS are a significant burden on respiratory health in Asia. Our findings underscore the need for targeted, region-specific public health strategies and improved air quality monitoring. However, results are subject to limitations, including significant study heterogeneity and potential language bias due to the exclusion of non-English publications.
  • Chronic cough in adults: a contemporary review of cough hypersensitivity syndrome and clinical management. [Review]
    J Asthma. 2026 Oct 07; :1-12. [Online ahead of print]Sierra DP, Bacchus-Ali BW, … Al-Shaor HJA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence supports an individualized, mechanism-based approach that prioritizes identification and treatment of relevant diseases and treatable traits while recognizing cough hypersensitivity as a potential therapeutic target. Emerging peripheral neural therapies may broaden future treatment options for refractory chronic cough.
