- Comparison of the Detection of Early Occlusal Caries in Extracted Human Permanent Molar Teeth by Electrical Conductance and Biopsy Means. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Subject to in vivo clinical support, the Ortek ECD is likely to prove to be the best method for detection and evaluation of early occlusal caries.
- A Randomized Parallel Study to Assess the Effect of Three Tongue Cleaning Modalities on Oral Malodor. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Reductions in malodor were evident following a single use of each product, and also following a seven-day repeat use period. The STC regimen, however, was statistically significantly superior to both LCM and MTB at improving malodor eight hours following the first use. Statistically significant differences in OL scores were sustained between STC and LCM, and STC and MTB at each efficacy timepoint following the seven-day home use period.
- A Comparison of the Effects of a Powered and Manual Toothbrush on Gingivitis and Plaque: A Randomized Parallel Clinical Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The powered toothbrush was statistically significantly superior to a manual toothbrush in reducing gingival inflammation, gingival bleeding, and plaque following two and four weeks of home use.
- A Randomized Parallel Study to Compare the Effects of Powered and Manual Tooth Brushing on Gingival Health and Plaque. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The powered toothbrush, used in either Gum Health or Clean mode, was statistically significantly superior to a manual tooth brush in reducing gingival inflammation, gingival bleeding, and plaque following two and six weeks of home use.
- A Comparison of the Effect of Two Power Toothbrushes on the Reduction of Gingival Inflammation and Supragingival Plaque. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart powered toothbrush reduced gingival inflammation, gingival bleeding, and supragingival plaque significantly more than the Oral-B Genius 8000 powered toothbrush following a 42-day home-use period. Both products were safe for use.
- The Effects of Use of a Powered and a Manual Home Oral Hygiene Regimen on Plaque and Gum Health in an Orthodontic Population. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The powered oral hygiene regimen was significantly more effective than a manual regimen in reducing plaque on bracketed and non-bracketed teeth, and in reducing gingival bleeding and gingival inflammation in orthodontic subjects following three weeks of use and persisting following six weeks of use. All products were safe on oral tissues and fixed orthodontic appliances.
- Development of a Screening Method to Establish if pH of Oral Care Products Affects Hard Tissues. [Journal Article]J Clin Dent. 2018 Dec; 29(4):92-96.JC
- CONCLUSIONS: This simple screening method accurately assesses the influence of positive and negative controls, regardless of the source of hard tissue (human vs. bovine) and saliva (human vs. artificial). It correctly shows that marketed products with pH below 5.5 that demonstrate favorable in vivo safety profiles do not contribute to detrimental hard tissue changes. The method is easily transferable and shows potential as a tool for the safety profile assessment of oral care products.
- Crossover Clinical Trial of Tablets Containing Sodium Tripolyphosphate on Dental Stain Formation. [Randomized Controlled Trial]J Clin Dent. 2018 Dec; 29(4):87-91.JC
- CONCLUSIONS: This clinical study showed that regular use of sugar-free tablets added with sodium tripolyphosphate 2% or 0.65% can reduce stain formation on the anterior teeth respectively by 35.5% (p < 0.001) or 23.3% (p < 0.001), both on facial and lingual/palatal surfaces.
- Evaluation of the Addition of a Water Flosser to Manual Brushing on Gingival Health. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The addition of the Waterpik®Water Flosser to manual tooth brushing is significantly more effective for improving gingival health than manual tooth brushing alone.
- Randomized Clinical Dose-Response Study to Evaluate Plaque Removal by Three Experimental Sodium Bicarbonate Toothpastes Using a Single Brushing Model. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: There was no statistically significant difference in change in mean TPI score between toothpastes containing 67% w/w NaHCO3 and 0% w/w NaHCO3 following a single timed brushing. This unexpected observation may be attributed to lower than expected reduction in overall plaque and a possible Hawthorne effect. As study validation was not met, no further conclusions can be made. The study products were generally well tolerated.
- Randomized Clinical Study Comparing Three Experimental Denture Adhesives and Fixodent® versus No Adhesive. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: All denture adhesives gave statistically significantly better bite force AOB in moderately well- to well-fitting dentures compared to no adhesive. All denture adhesives tested were generally well tolerated.
- Short- and Long-Term Effects of a Dentifrice Containing Dual Zinc plus Arginine on Intra-Oral Halitosis: Improvements in Breath Quality. [Clinical Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Improvements in breath quality were attributed to the effects of zinc cations delivered by the uniquely formulated dentifrice.
- A Clinical Investigation of the Efficacy of a Dual Zinc plus Arginine Dentifrice for Controlling Oral Malodor. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The overall results of this double-blind clinical study support the conclusion that a new Dual Zinc plus Arginine dentifrice containing zinc (zinc oxide, zinc citrate) 0.96%, 1.5% arginine, and 1450 ppm fluoride as sodium fluoride in a silica base provides a significantly greater reduction in oral malodor as compared to a regular fluoride dentifrice containing 1450 ppm fluoride as sodium fluoride in a silica base 12 hours post-brushing (overnight) after 3 weeks of product use.
- A Clinical Investigation of a Dual Zinc plus Arginine Dentifrice in Reducing Established Dental Plaque and Gingivitis Over a Six-Month Period of Product Use. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: The overall results of this double-blind clinical study support the conclusion that a Dual Zinc plus Arginine dentifrice containing zinc (zinc oxide, zinc citrate) 0.96%, 1.5% Arginine, and 1450 ppm fluoride as sodium fluoride in a silica base provides significantly greater reduction in dental plaque and gingivitis parameters as compared to a regular fluoride dentifrice containing 1450 ppm fluoride as sodium fluoride in a silica base after three months and six months of product use.
- The Effects of Two New Dual Zinc plus Arginine Dentifrices in Reducing Oral Bacteria in Multiple Locations in the Mouth: 12-Hour Whole Mouth Antibacterial Protection for Whole Mouth Health. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Toothpastes containing 0.96% zinc (zinc oxide, zinc citrate), 1.5% L-arginine and either 1450 ppm or 1000 ppm fluoride as sodium fluoride in a silica base provide statistically significant reductions in oral bacteria on the teeth, tongue, cheeks, and gums, as well as in saliva, compared to toothpaste with fluoride alone, 12 hours after 29 days of twice-daily tooth brushing. The results demonstrate that regular and continued twice-daily use of these new toothpastes provide 12-hour whole mouth antibacterial protection for whole mouth health.
