- Long-term Age- and Region-Specific Changes in Psychiatric Service Utilization Following Japan's First COVID-19 State of Emergency. [Journal Article]J Epidemiol. 2026 Oct 17. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: Following the first state of emergency, psychiatric outpatient visits increased with marked heterogeneity by age group and region, with more pronounced acceleration in high-intensity regions. These findings underscore the value of age- and region-specific monitoring of psychiatric service utilization during future public health crises.

- Cohort Profile: The Tongji Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality (TJCC) Cohort Study of Community Residents. [Journal Article]J Epidemiol. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]JE
- Low-carbon development of coal-fired power generation (CPG) is essential in achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. While greatly reducing the emissions of carbon dioxide and homologous conventional pollutants, low-carbon CPG may change emitted-pollutants profiles, increase certain emitted-pollutants levels, and even emit new pollutants, bringing both health risks and benefits, which are …

- Caregiver Recognition and Engagement in 27 Maltreatment-Related Behaviors After Japan's Corporal Punishment Ban: A Municipal Survey. [Journal Article]J Epidemiol. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: Several behaviors not meeting the reporting criterion were commonly reported, and were often not classified as abuse. These findings suggest that even after the legal prohibition of corporal punishment, parenting support should specify which everyday behaviors may constitute corporal punishment or maltreatment.

- Relationships between area deprivation and stillbirth, neonatal mortality, infant mortality, and child mortality rates in Japan from 2015 to 2022: A descriptive epidemiological study. [Journal Article]J Epidemiol. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: Municipal disparities in stillbirth rates according to ADI were observed throughout 2015 to 2022. In contrast, disparities in neonatal, infant, and child mortality according to ADI were not apparent from 2015 to 2019 but observed from 2020 to 2022. This period coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic period. Because this study was descriptive, the reasons for these temporal changes cannot be determined. Further studies are needed to clarify the underlying mechanisms.

- Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and risk of cardiovascular disease in a working population. [Journal Article]J Epidemiol. 2026 Sep 19. [Online ahead of print]JE
- BackgroundElevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is a well-established risk factor for coronary heart disease, but its role in stroke remains unclear. This study examined the association between LDL-C levels and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its subtypes in a large cohort of Japanese workers.MethodsWe analyzed data from 69,605 participants in the Japan Epidemiology Co…

- Associations of Major Disease Diagnoses (Myocardial Infarction, Stroke, and Cancer) and Surgery with Smoking Cessation: A population-based cohort study in Japan. [Journal Article]J Epidemiol. 2026 Sep 19. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: Major disease diagnoses and surgery were strongly associated with long-term smoking cessation over 10 years. These events may provide potential "teachable moments" for health professionals to encourage cessation.

- The Association Between Depressive Symptoms and Metabolic Syndrome in Middle-aged Japanese Workers: A longitudinal Study from Aichi Workers' Cohort. [Journal Article]J Epidemiol. 2026 Sep 05. [Online ahead of print]JE
- BackgroundDepression has been associated with various chronic conditions, including metabolic syndrome (MetS), but findings from Japanese studies have been inconsistent and are limited to cross-sectional design. We therefore examined the longitudinal association between depressive symptoms and incidence of MetS and its components in middle-aged Japanese workers.MethodsData were analysed from 2969…

- Integrating polygenic and machine learning-derived nutrient risk scores for colorectal cancer risk stratification: Evidence from Korean adults. [Journal Article]J Epidemiol. 2026 Sep 05. [Online ahead of print]JE
- CONCLUSIONS: Both PRS and NRS showed independent associations with CRC risk, and their integration significantly improved risk reclassification. NRS may serve as a useful composite metabolic marker for CRC risk stratification. Future studies incorporating longitudinal designs, larger sample sizes, and multi-omic data are warranted to further elucidate CRC risk determinants and to inform personalized risk assessment strategies.
