- Digital surveillance or objective evidence? Wearable-derived data in insurance and legal medicine: A narrative review and medico-legal perspective. [Review]J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 Sep 06; 123:103246. [Online ahead of print]JF
- CONCLUSIONS: Wearable-derived data may inform medico-legal reasoning, but they cannot by themselves establish disability, functional capacity, claimant credibility, or provide a self-sufficient reconstruction of legally relevant facts. A cautious, proportionate, and clinically contextualized approach is required before such data are used in insurance, civil, criminal, or broader legal medicine contexts.

- Medico-legal consequences of dog attacks: A retrospective analysis of disability, permanent facial scarring, and psychiatric outcomes. [Journal Article]J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 Sep 03; 123:103243. [Online ahead of print]JF
- CONCLUSIONS: Dog attacks may result in substantial medico-legal consequences, including permanent facial scarring, psychiatric sequelae, and long-term disability. Pediatric victims appear particularly vulnerable to facial injuries and permanent scarring. Fracture presence and injury depth were important determinants of disability outcomes. These findings may contribute to more standardized forensic documentation, disability assessment, and medico-legal evaluation of dog attack victims.

- Adult sexual assault: A 10-year retrospective forensic study of injury, psychosocial, and marital outcomes. [Journal Article]J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 Aug 24; 123:103233. [Online ahead of print]JF
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that adult sexual assault has profound forensic, psychological, and social implications. Timely forensic evaluation remains critical for the detection of physical findings and the preservation of medico-legal evidence. At the same time, psychosocial and marital consequences highlight the need for trauma-informed, multidisciplinary approaches that address not only forensic documentation but also psychological support and family-centered interventions to improve long-term survivor outcomes. These findings emphasize the need for integrated forensic, psychological, and social approaches in the medico-legal management of adult sexual assault survivors.

- Addressing scientific limitations of common causation opinions in spinal and traumatic brain injury litigation. [Review]J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 Aug 13; 123:103230. [Online ahead of print]JF
- CONCLUSIONS: Ten forensic defense opinions commonly advanced in spinal and brain injury litigation are each contradicted by robust peer-reviewed evidence and lack any identifiable scientific foundation. These unsubstantiated maxims grounded in anecdotal clinical experience rather than the medical literature distort causation analysis and undermine legitimate injury claims. Accurate forensic evaluation of crash-related spinal and brain injuries requires integration of biological plausibility, individual vulnerability, clinical evolution, advanced neuroimaging, and long-term outcome data, consistent with current scientific and diagnostic standards.

- Testing the validity of the DSP2 sex assessment method on two European populations. [Journal Article]J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 Aug; 122:103229.JF
- Sex estimation from human skeletal remains can be achieved using a diverse range of skeletal elements, methodologies, and statistical approaches. While population specificity presents a challenge for most metric sex assessment methods, the os coxae seems to bypass this issue due to its universal pattern of sexual dimorphism. The DSP2 (Diagnose Sexuelle Probabiliste, version 2) is a non-population…

- Individual identification plays an important role in forensic anthropology, where biological profiles are created. Estimating body height is a key parameter, alongside age, sex and ethnicity. This study aims to assess the relationship between height and hand dimensions, and to develop regression equations specific to the Slovak population. The sample consists of 125 women and 90 men aged 18-30. T…

- A 10-year analysis of obstetric malpractice litigation according to court of cassation (Yargıtay) decisions (2016-2025): A descriptive study. [Journal Article]J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 Aug; 122:103224.JF
- CONCLUSIONS: Within the appellate case pool, the dominant correlate of the Court of Cassation outcome was not the severity of the clinical event but the fault assessment recorded in the expert report. Because a substantial minority of reversals rested on non-evidentiary legal grounds and the dataset reflects only cases reaching the Court of Cassation, the findings should be read as associations within an appellate sample rather than as measures of malpractice incidence, institutional burden, or expert-report quality.

- Suspicion of sexual assault in female perineal injuries to formulate guidelines for clinicians - A retrospective study. [Journal Article]J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 Aug; 122:103221.JF
- CONCLUSIONS: A total of 532 cases of trauma and assault of female patients were forensically assessed during the study period and cases with perineal and/or genital injuries, history of sexual assault and suspicious cases wereevaluated for major challenges faced. These included injury-to-history mismatch, delayed presentation, previously treated referred cases with dressings or clots, absence of witnesses, and differentiation of impalement trauma from sexual assault. Variability in consent scenarios and evidence preservation difficulties were frequently encountered. Ten cases representing the spectrum of diagnostic and forensic dilemmas were choosen for discussion. A structured clinical-forensic evaluation strategy was formulated to guide history assessment, injury correlation, consent procedures, forensic evidence preservation, etc. CONCLUSION: A systematic interdisciplinary approach with increased awareness of medicolegal responsibilities can improve early evidence preservation, support accurate injury interpretation, and reduce the risk of missed forensic evidence in suspected sexual assault-related perineal injuries.

- Pattern of pituitary gland injuries in fatal head injuries: A cross-sectional autopsy study. [Journal Article]J Forensic Leg Med. 2026 Aug; 122:103225.JF
- CONCLUSIONS: Pituitary gland injury is present in nearly half of fatal head injury cases. The histopathological pattern-haemorrhage versus necrosis-correlates with the post-injury survival interval and may, pending independent validation, serve as a useful forensic indicator at autopsy. These findings underscore the need for prospective studies in TBI survivors to evaluate pituitary function and inform clinical management.
