  • Human antibody responses to Group A Streptococcus infection: A systematic review. [Journal Article]
    J Infect. 2026 Oct 19; 93(5):106880. [Online ahead of print]Barr R, Frost H, … iSpy-LIFE and iSpy-EXPLORE networksJI
  • CONCLUSIONS: This review synthesizes 77 years of heterogenous studies describing antibody responses to GAS infection. Limitations of this review arise from the heterogeneity between studies and study risk of bias. Despite this, we identify major gaps in our understanding of the magnitude, kinetics, and protective role of antibody responses. Our synthesis uncovers information that will support GAS vaccine development including: guidance on sampling time points and the identification of antibodies that may be associated with protection from disease, as well as the need for standardisation of laboratory methodology and minimally-biased antigen discovery approaches.
  • The emergence and spread of third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Neisseria Meningitidis in China. [Journal Article]
    J Infect. 2026 Oct 14; 93(5):106879. [Online ahead of print]Wang H, Xu L, … Shao ZJI
  • Neisseria meningitidis is the causative agent of invasive meningococcal disease. Although third-generation cephalosporins remain the recommended empirical therapy, there has been a growing number of globally reported isolates with resistance. This study aims to elucidate the genetic and evolutionary mechanisms underlying third-generation cephalosporin resistance in N. meningitidis. Whole-genome s…
  • The 2026-27 El Niño event: what should UK infection services expect? [Editorial]
    J Infect. 2026 Oct 12; :106872. [Online ahead of print]Tweed S, M O'Reilly K, … Dunning JJI
  • A strong 2026-27 El Niño is developing, with potentially important consequences for infectious-disease epidemiology worldwide. For UK infection services, the principal effect is likely to arise indirectly through changes in the incidence and geographical distribution of infections among returning travellers, particularly vector-borne and enteric infections, rather than through substantial increas…
  • Comparative efficacy and safety of pharmacological regimens for Mycobacterium avium complex pulmonary disease and bacteremia: A systematic review with separate network meta-analyses. [Systematic Review]

  • CONCLUSIONS: In MAC-PD, ALIS added to GBT was associated with the ranked highest for treatment success probability but increased TEAE risk, supporting its role as a selective adjunctive option, particularly in patients with difficult-to-treat or refractory disease. In MAC bacteremia, GBT showed the most favorable treatment-success profile within the available evidence, whereas CLO_R_E_FQ and CLO_M were associated with lower odds of treatment success. These findings should be interpreted cautiously because of substantial heterogeneity, sparse evidence for several comparisons, imprecision, variable safety reporting, and limitations in transitivity. Further standardized head-to-head trials are needed to clarify optimal regimens, treatment duration, and safety-monitoring strategies for different MAC disease settings.
