- Lancefield group A Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis bacteremia with genomic characterization of the gacA-gacL locus. [Case Reports]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Oct 28; :103115. [Online ahead of print]JI
- Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis (SDSE) typically expresses Lancefield group C or G antigens, whereas group A isolates are very uncommon. We report a clinical case of bacteremia caused by a Lancefield group A SDSE isolate with its genomic characteristics. A 73-year-old man was hospitalized for acute decompensated heart failure. His blood cultures yielded Lancefield group A β-hemolyti…

- Fungal endocarditis (FE) caused by Exophiala dermatitidis (E. dermatitidis) is extremely rare, and optimal management remains unclear because most reported cases have been treated with combined surgical and antifungal therapy. We describe a 76-year-old man with catheter-related bloodstream infection complicated by tricuspid valve FE due to E. dermatitidis. The patient had a history of repeated ca…

- Listeria monocytogenes meningitis after pembrolizumab-based chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer: A case report. [Case Reports]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Oct 27; 32(12):103114. [Online ahead of print]JI
- Listeria monocytogenes is a major cause of invasive infections in individuals with impaired cell-mediated immunity. Recently, the combination of pembrolizumab with concurrent chemoradiotherapy has been established as the standard treatment for high-risk, locally advanced cervical cancer. Nevertheless, characterization of severe infections that occur during this treatment regimen remains inadequat…

- Atovaquone prophylaxis against Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia in immunosuppressed patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases: Incidence and clinical characteristics of a breakthrough case-A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Oct 27; :103116. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: Atovaquone oral suspension 1,500 mg/day was associated with a PCP incidence rate of 0.69 per 100 person-years in patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases receiving glucocorticoid therapy. Review of the clinical characteristics of the breakthrough case raised the hypothesis that decreased dietary fat intake may have contributed to breakthrough PCP, suggesting that fat content at administration may warrant attention. Prospective studies incorporating atovaquone plasma concentration monitoring are needed to test this hypothesis.

- Anaerobic bacteria are uncommon causes of bacterial meningitis. We report a rare case of polymicrobial anaerobic meningitis with ventriculitis involving Slackia exigua and Solobacterium moorei, both oral anaerobes. A 41-year-old woman presented with headache, vomiting, and impaired consciousness. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis was consistent with bacterial meningitis, and cultures yielded S. exigua…

- Virological and clinical outcomes in outpatients treated with baloxavir or neuraminidase inhibitors for A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza: A multicenter study of the 2024-2025 season. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Oct 26; 32(12):103112. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: During the A(H1N1)pdm09-dominant 2024-2025 season, baloxavir showed a favorable virological profile, with less frequent day-5 virus isolation than oseltamivir and no detected treatment-emergent PA E23X/I38X substitutions. Influenza-related symptom durations were comparable between baloxavir and oseltamivir.

- Serum apoptosis inhibitor of macrophage is associated with radiologic severity in pulmonary Mycobacterium avium complex disease. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Oct 22; 32(12):103106. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: Serum AIM was associated with radiologic disease burden in patients with MAC-PD at baseline and 6 months and decreased during the first 6 months of GBT. Larger studies are needed to further evaluate its clinical utility.

- A nomogram for predicting in-hospital mortality in patients with coagulase-negative staphylococcus bloodstream infections. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Nov; 32(11):103111.JI
- CONCLUSIONS: Age, AG, TBil and respiratory failure were independent risk factors for in-hospital mortality among patients with CoNS-BSIs. The nomogram based on these four parameters demonstrated good performance and clinical utility for risk assessment.

- A hypothesis-generating study of collateral reactivation: a reanalysis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis genomes from 119 recurrent tuberculosis cases. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Nov; 32(11):103109.JI
- Recurrent tuberculosis is traditionally classified as exogenous reinfection or endogenous reactivation. We previously proposed "collateral reactivation," in which distinct Mycobacterium tuberculosis subclones derived from a hypothetical original clone are involved in separate disease episodes, in contrast to traditional endogenous ("direct-descent") reactivation. To explore whether collateral rea…

- The Long COVID Burden Index (LCBI) is an 11-item patient-reported outcome measure developed to assess the burden of long COVID symptoms on daily life. Although its cross-sectional validity and internal consistency have been demonstrated, its test-retest reliability, measurement error, and minimal important change (MIC) have not yet been evaluated. We conducted a longitudinal postal survey among a…

- CONCLUSIONS: In this cohort, no breakthrough IFIs occurred within 100 days after ISCZ prophylaxis initiation. Although Grade 3 or higher adverse events occurred, their causal relationship with ISCZ could not be definitively established in this retrospective study. These findings provide real-world data on ISCZ prophylaxis in patients at high risk for IFIs. Further validation in multicenter prospective studies is needed.

- Epidemiological Characteristics of Pertussis in Hainan Province, 2023-2025. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Oct 20; :103105. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that the 2024 pertussis outbreak in Hainan was followed by a rapid decline in 2025, with a shift toward older children and a persistently high hospitalization risk in infants aged 0-2 months. These findings support strengthening surveillance in schools and childcare institutions and evaluating the effectiveness of the 6-year DTaP booster policy, while maintaining maternal and infant protection strategies.

- Patient-month modeling for longitudinal blood culture contamination surveillance during a major healthcare-system disruption: a single-center interrupted time-series study. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Nov; 32(11):103107.JI
- CONCLUSIONS: Patient-month Poisson GEE-based analysis showed that crude increases in BCC rates were not accompanied by statistically significant overall level or slope changes after accounting for repeated patient-level sampling and seasonality. Crude BCC trends should therefore be interpreted cautiously in longitudinal microbiology surveillance.

- Clinical characteristics of necrotizing soft tissue infection among patients with high LRINEC scores. [Journal Article]J Infect Chemother. 2026 Oct 20; 32(12):103104. [Online ahead of print]JI
- CONCLUSIONS: In patients with high LRINEC scores, NSTI was associated with marked inflammatory response, renal dysfunction, specific CT findings and early hemodynamic instability. Early vasopressor requirement should be interpreted primarily as a marker of early hemodynamic deterioration or disease severity, rather than a diagnostic characteristic specific to NSTI.
