- Prognostic Value of Selected Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition and Immune Checkpoint Markers in Predicting Malignant Transformation of Oral Leukoplakia. [Journal Article]J Oral Pathol Med. 2026 Sep 27. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that immune checkpoint markers, particularly PD-1 and PD-L1, may be associated with progression in OL and may warrant further validation as adjunctive prognostic markers.

- Effects of Infrared and Dual-Wavelength Photobiomodulation Therapy on Mandibular Bone Healing Following Radiotherapy and Tooth Extraction: An Experimental Study. [Journal Article]J Oral Pathol Med. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: Both IR-PBMT and Dual-PBMT improved the evaluated histological and bone-remodeling parameters following radiotherapy and tooth extraction. Because the control animals did not undergo tooth extraction, comparisons with the control group should be interpreted cautiously. Although Dual-PBMT produced a greater increase in ALP expression, the findings do not demonstrate the overall superiority of one PBMT protocol over the other. Both approaches may represent promising adjunctive strategies for mitigating radiation-associated impairment of mandibular bone healing.

- Circ_STIL Affects Ferroptosis by Sponging miR-338-3p in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma. [Journal Article]J Oral Pathol Med. 2026 Sep 09. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: circSTIL/miR-338-3p axis plays a key role in the malignant progression of OSCC and ferroptosis. GPX4 may function as the key target in this regulatory network.

- Long-Term Care of OLP Patients: A Retrospective Study From a Single Hospital Outpatient Clinic. [Journal Article]J Oral Pathol Med. 2026 Sep 04. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: In this long-term single-centre cohort, OLP frequently evolved through dysplasia during follow-up, and malignant transformation occurred in a minority of patients. Older age and red-type phenotype characterized patients more likely to develop dysplasia, while malignant transformation was more frequent in the case of previously documented dysplastic lesions, in keeping with the notion of dysplasia as a step along the carcinogenic pathway, older age, and diffuse lesions.

- Sample-Efficient Transfer Learning for Histopathological Detection of HNSCC. [Journal Article]J Oral Pathol Med. 2026 Aug 31. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: Domain-specific foundation models enable competitive HNSCC detection under annotation-scarce conditions. However, performance depends on the representativeness of annotated cases and tumor heterogeneity across anatomical sites and institutions. Further multicenter and prospective studies are required to assess generalizability and integration into routine histopathological workflows.

- TOP2A Drives Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Initiation and Progression Through Activation of the TGF-β2/Smad Signaling Pathway. [Journal Article]J Oral Pathol Med. 2026 Aug 31. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that TOP2A is upregulated in OSCC and may promote tumor progression via the TGF-β2/Smad signaling pathway. Our results support TOP2A as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target in OSCC.

- Correlation Between Prognostic Indicators, HPV Status, and Cancer Stem Cell Markers in a Population of Human Tongue Carcinomas. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest a distinct CSC expression profile in this cohort, characterized by ubiquitous CD44 expression and a rare but highly aggressive ALDH1-High subpopulation, concomitant with low HPV detection. The strong positive correlation of ALDH1-High score with advanced stage and grade highlights its potential role as a key driver of tumor aggression, warranting further investigation as a prognostic marker.
